Has anyone on this forum used Boot Camp to run windows XP on a mac? I have Ableton and am in the process of learning all of the "in's and out's" in the mean time, I have a lot of expirence with Fruity Loops and am very familiar with it. I was thinking about downloading this program but I am afraid of ruining the integrity of my comp. Does anyone use both fruity in conjunction with ableton? basically, I like sequencing my drum patterns in fruity but i like doing everything else in ableton. I have an old ass dell laptop that I can run Fruity on seperately but I am having trouble deciding what would be the best way to attack this. Any reccomendations from the vets on this board?

dunno about boot camp, but i know that the latest version of parallels runs 3d games like their native. screenshots of Quake 4 and all that too! so i would think that if it can handle Q4 than it should be able to handle fruity.

ive run fruity on intel mac running bootcamp.
Surprisingly easy to set up.
Bit tricky with no right click etc etc.
Apparently some mag did some tests and a intel mac with bootcamp/windows xp booted faster than a PC running windows, obviosuly booth machines specked equal.

You described my exact setup/method. It works really well for me, on a Macbook Pro with bootcamp.

The only flaw: FL Studio doesn't seem to take advantage of the dual core... when its FL maxes out, the task manager shows 50% usage.

I would have thought it would be best to run bootcamp rather than parallels - you'll get more power from your machine that way (even if it can run Quake 4 ok...).
What is more of a problem with running bootcamp or parallels is there is no Del key on a Mac, so pressing ctrl-alt-del *even* more frustrating than usual. Here's how to remap the keyboard:

PS. I think there was talk of adding this functionality to the final version of bootcamp and you would only need to remap the keys if you were using the beta version.

Word, thanks for the advice, some good info here. Now that I know it will work, my question is... do I need to worry about corrupting my hard drive? My mac is virus free, I will only use safari for web browsing, do I still risk infection by running xp strictly for fruity loops?

Yes, potentially you could still pick up a virus on the mac side which could get across to the pc side. But it won't be able to do anything until you boot up Windows. Also you are unlikely to get an infection which could spread the other way. So what ever happens your mac side will be safe. As long as you are running a virus scanner on the pc side you will be fine. AVG is really good & it's free.

I assume you can't run FL via rewire into Live or other apps in MacOS?

I guess you could run FL into the PC version of Live...
