please advise

I gather i should zip it up pre-wash, wash in cold water, and not use the dryer .. so the fabric doesn't shrink and make the zipper all foldy forever ruining the hoodie

but i hung mine to dry, and the wash-water somehow made the whole thing stiff.. it's clean, and didn't warp/shrink, but now its stiff and not soft. is the only way to never wash these things?

What's it made out of? Unless it's wool or something that needs a low heat/handwash, you should just be able to chuck it in the wash with everything else.

If it's not wool and it's gone all stiff, it sounds a bit like it didn't get a very good rinse... maybe try running it through a cycle without any detergent and then drying it again.

You have not mentioned what colour it is, surely you don't wash single items in the wash. If it's light grey or white it can only go in with reds.

ive just already ruined a handful by washing and drying normally,tried zipped and unzipped on it and the zipper always ends up bubbled/folded if ya get what i mean..
this last time around i washed cold extra rinse and laid out to air dry. fixed the problem but resulted in stiffness
sucks cuz there's nothing like a zippy when its new

Do you stick fabric softener in with it too?

i feel your pain bruv, no idea what you can do tho...
maybe ironing it will help?

I usually try to be real careful with my hoodies because they are one of the garments I wear the most. I will wash them with my other clothes and then put them in the drier for only about 10 - 15 minutes. I then air dry them from there. I have seen the stiffness that you are talking about by just air drying them so this seems to help a bit. Any remaining stiffness will just wear off once you start wearing your hoodie.

My zip up hoodie just goes in a standard wash then tumble drier. No problems ever.
