--------------------------------
We're very grateful to welcome Shackleton back to Manchester after his blinding Secret Wars appearance earlier this year. He was so happy with the gig and the crowd that he asked to play again for us this Winter which is a massive compliment to everyone who was involved in March. Again this is a an extremely rare performance for someone as popular and respected as Shackleton especially at New Years - indeed the next time you're likely to see him again is in Croatia with a few thousand other people let alone nice and cozy with 149 others bringing in 2012(and the end of time itself).
In support is a snapshot of Manchester's underground: 2011 has been something of a windfall of Manchester talent and has seen many nights hit their stride with confidence: You've been spoiled week in week out with inspired bookings and increasingly talented and individual residents. This is by no means a complete picture but for New Years we've asked Project 13, Faktion, Assmatics, PYC Sessions and Subtitled to lend us a few of their djs and mixed them in up in b2bs to create a proper blend of what's currently going on..
Tickets are currently 15 pound until they run out - If you want to make a deal on multiples contact me at jameshall81@gmail.com
Thank you.. Open Plan
A bit about the nights involved...
Faktion/Conor
Conor was hand-picked by Shackleton for this gig to play as they go way back: As Ploy in 2005 he put on Manchester's first night dedicated to the dubstep sound a long time before many people knew what to make of it. It mostly consisted of first-time Manchester performances by artists like Shackleton, Appleblim, Vex'd and Kode9. He's continued to work with various nights over the years particularly Faktion to bring more debuts from Peverelist, Joker and Joy Orbison – none of which were the widely-known artists you know today. To say then he's had his finger on the pulse is a bit of an understatement so keep an eye out for what Faktion's got planned...
Nanny Banton/BMT
Assmatics member Nanny has been a regular on the Manchester scene for some time now playing at some of the cities biggest DnB nights including Metropolis, Ape and Viagra Fools. Along with holding down residencies at Crash, Homegrown Presents and Yorkshire based Depthcuts Nanny has been pushing his rare jungle sounds on several radio stations and was one of the founding members of the Manchester Fire Sessions Show with Node, Mathmatics and Sycotic (Brown Note). These days he is the head honcho of the BMT night which has quickly established itself as one of the cities top jungle nights and has been recognised as one of the top 5 new nights in the country by The Guardian club guide. Expect a not to be missed ferocious 94-98 jungle rinse out.
KJ Ill, Cykl/PYC Sessions
PYC Sessions has grown in a rapid manner since its conception as a Manchester based collective and blog a little under a year ago. Now encompassing DJs/photographers/writers/artists and producers PYC aims to promote and propagate the current glut of creative talent feeding a thriving and ever growing network of like-minded heads, from Manchester and beyond. More at http://www.pycsessions.com
Snatch, Teknition/Subtitled
Subtitled is a Manchester based music & events collective focusing around the bass music and dubstep spectrum.. created from the offspring of other Manchester nights/promotors Subtitled is currently chasing the underground and exciting sounds emerging from the scene from past, present and upcoming producers. Over the coming months Subtitled plans to keep pushing things in the right direction with some intelligent lineups incoming aided by its team of resident DJ's including Biome (Osiris/BlackBox), Blynk (Evive Records), Bare Tactics & Teknition.
Mankovic/Project 13
Established in May 2011, Project 13 began as a group of friends with a
similar passion for music, streaming live shows from the Green Room
(Mankovic's Bedroom). They've since gained a bit of a following as well
as some recognition within Manchester's underground music scene.
September saw the Project branching out into new territory as they put on
their first club night and shortly after that they began a series of
podcasts. Where they go from there is not yet known... in fact they still
don't know what they are, but they like that.
Node, Brown Note, Douglas Quaid/Secret Wars
Secret Wars is Open Plan's non-profit night that focuses on quality over capacity, bringing great artists into an intimate environment. The resident djs Node, Brown Note and Douglas Quaid represent the night's openness and attention to detail in both their skill and selection.
