i seem to remember someone saying there was a way to rip the entire soundtrack from a film in audacity rather than just let it play and record the output which always sounds shit for me since i only have the in build computer speakers at my disposal.

anyone know how?

:t: safe

Are you on Vista or 7? Just asking because iirc, you can only rip audio from movies/tunes with Audacity if you are on windows XP. Vista and 7 disables the feature. I remember seeing what your talking about though, I'll have a look when I'm home if nobody else has sorted you out.

EDIT: This should help you out bro, but like I said, you can't enable the Stereo mix on Vista or 7.

If Stereo Mix is disabled, chances are this is a manufacturer specific setting in your bios to turn it off, as it is with my Dell laptop.

You could use VLC Media Player to rip the full audio track from a video though.

just as an alternative, and if you wanna use audacity for mac users you can download soundflower.
Make the output of the video player/your computer soundflower
Input on audacity soundflower
hit record and play the film you wanna record

I'm pretty sure you can use stereo mix to record the sound internally. Set that as your mic input in the sound settings and then press play on the movie and record on audacity and it should work. Some computers don't have stereo mix, though...in which case you can try plugging a 3.5mm to 3.5mm aux cable from your headphone output to the mic input, probably will not work as well.

Just drag the avi into audacity wait 5 mins and you'll have the whole film as a sound file

personally what i like to do is have a sit in my studio, launch netflix on my monitor, kick back, watch a film, and write down the exact times when i find a sample i like into a notebook. It's a lot easier than having to sift through the entire movies audio file for possibly a few good pieces of dialogue
