What do you mean among the hipster crowd? It's just a good movie. I've thought that way about it for years.

you don't know? this movie is crazy popular among hipsters along with a Clockwork Orange, Pulp Fiction, and a few others
Your definition of hipster seems to be those who like anything slightly original. Off the top of your head what are your 5 fav films?

Interesting choices wub, they all get my stamp of approval except Mad Max which I haven't seen. Any reason you chose it over the second which most people seem to prefer?

And now to answer my own question because that seems like a way cooler thread 8)

2001: A Space Odyssey, Persona, Taxi Driver, Apocalypse Now, Aguirre: The Wrath of God

Indeed, even by Bergman's usual standards. Mulholland Dr. is excellent too and although not a remake is heavily referential to Persona.

The original shows why Max becomes mad in the first place. He starts off sane, then gets pushed over the edge by the events that envelop him. The second one lacks character development, and is more action orientated.

never said this^ just every hipster around where I live has favored these specific movies and not any others
I typically look at 'hipster' anything as things that have all style, no substance. Napoleon Dynamite fits that bill very well in my opinion. Or people who sincerely try and tell you The Room is a masterpiece with a straight face (it is hilarious to watch though). Although Fight Club doesn't have as much substance as it at first seems it is still a fairly good film. And A Clockwork Orange and Pulp Fiction are classics. The reason I asked what your 5 fav films were is because some people think anyone who likes stuff other than Michael Bay explosions are hipsters. I imagine some people view us as hipsters because they see us as elitist in what we look for in our dubstep.

I mean I guess technically hipster is just the full word for hippie but it's meaning seems to have drifted away from hippie. I think of if as the all style no substance one but some people think it's interchangeable with elitist.

Hipsters like Fight Club because everyone likes Fight Club.

A more interesting conversation might ask why you would pay so much attention to the movies hipsters watch... perhaps because you're insecure about your non-hipsterdom?

Do you.
