Im still relatively new to this scene, but can anyone explain the differences to me? It seems like jungle sounds a bit more lo-fi than DnB. But then again I'm just comparing Ed Rush's "Bludclot Artattack" and B-Complex's "Beautiful Lies"

I'm pretty sure Jungle WAS the original dnb. It became dnb.

Well, before there ever was DNB, Jungle was the name of the sound.
If you notice the beat patterns in a jungle tune is very dynamic, every measure of a jungle tune is ever changing. There is also at times the "Ragga" influence in Jungle, not always found in DNB, Jungle is mostly at the 160 BPM
In a DNB tune the song can remain the same for several measures at a time, DNB draws from many influences such as jazz and ambient. DNB is mostly at the 170 BPM, DNB is Dance Music, Jungle is more abstract.

The relatively simple drum break beats of modern Drum and Bass (generally a two-step beat) are less complex than the 'chopped' 'Amen' breakbeats of jungle[41]
The usage of ragga and reggae vocals differentiates Drum and Bass from Jungle, but then again not all jungle has ragga/reggae vocals, some have other samples and some have no vocals.

Thats the glory of the pitch shift. No genre is totally BPM specific, but for sake of argument It's safe to say DNB is around the 170 tempo. Im no expert, but I've asked some of the same questions and these are the answers I've come up with.

Hardcore in those days referred to loads of stuff that barely had any relation to one another. Most of the blaring hoover stuff is techno really as opposed to all the spastic breakbeat stuff. There were some artists that combined both though. The connecting thing was more that it was all rave music than actual stylistic similarities.

i think what really separates hardcore breakbeat and jungle is tempo. hardcore was closer to 140. plus hardcore was generally more upbeat and jungle had a darkness to it. a lot of the 92 hardcore stuff could be sped up to 160 and pass for jungle easily.

Yeah I know right? I think EDM is the only one where it matters....cuz hip hop can range from 60 to 140 bpm and beyond!
