2011 highlights? What a year for albums....
2011 highlights? What a year for albums....
Here's a very swift roundup from me: http://www.theartsdesk.com/new-music/2011-rave-returns
Is it me or has it been a mind-blowingly good year for albums? Classics from Zomby, Silkie, Kuedo, Rustie, Africa Hitech, Damu, King Midas Sound, Zed Bias, Machinedrum, Goth Trad, Kode 9 & The Spaceape, Pinch & Shackleton just to mention a few...
A vintage year all round in fact.

Not really a huge fan of any of the releases mentioned there, but I don't think Keysounds contribution can be forgotten, LV & Josh Idehen - Routes and Sully - Carrier are two of my all time favourite releases, let alone just this year.

City Limits Vol. 2 and Glass Swords were brilliant, also good EPs from Coki, The Others, Goth-Trad, Distance, BadKlaat, etc.

I mentioned Damu... Agree re LV, I never quite got to grips with the Sully album - it's a set of great tracks but not quite an ALBUM album like the others for me.garethom wrote:Not really a huge fan of any of the releases mentioned there, but I don't think Keysounds contribution can be forgotten, LV & Josh Idehen - Routes and Sully - Carrier are two of my all time favourite releases, let alone just this year.
Fuck yeah to most of those, and will track down the ones I don't know... see what I mean = vintage year!joeki wrote:Outside of the regular names, I would also like to mention :

Ah yeah, apologies, didn't notice that one. Strangely, I have the feeling that you have with Sully's album about Damu's.joe muggs wrote:I mentioned Damu... Re: 2011 highlights? What a year for albums....
I thought that about Damu first listen, then when I had to give it a couple of goes through to review I just got addicted to the way it flows... the Trim track makes the perfect centrepiece, it all revolves around that.garethom wrote:Ah yeah, apologies, didn't notice that one. Given the amount most music fans spend on trainers / raves / video games / DVDs / drugs, who can't afford a tenner or less a week to download new albums?

True that, and I deserve a slap. It's just a lot harder these days justifying it to the wife. Albums are like pints, there's no such thing as just one.

Re: 2011 highlights? What a year for albums....
Best way to justify it. I've just spent about £12 down the pub for no reason. That's a whole album on vinyl, 2 digital albums, or 2 vinyl EPs or maybe 4 digital EPs.joe muggs wrote:Yeah and I buy music too. Too much of it.ghandi wrote:Albums can do one, who's got the dosh? Also, that Hotflush Back and 4th Compilation was amazing. The Sepalcure and George FitzGerald tracks on there were so good.
