I'm just now getting out of the knob twiddling phase of production that i've been in for the last 4 years and want to start making tunes, complete ones wheter or not they are good or bad. I've got a drum rack or two that I made and a few patches here and there for reason and massive.

How do you have your initial sets set up? I've been using the default. Care to share what works best for you? I've heard good things about ill gate's template but I don't like the trigger finger. Would that be worth paying for? I kinda doubt it, but hey I dunno.

Also I don't know a whole helluva a lot about the drum rack- are there any good templates or whatever that you all use? Perhaps I will cruise on over the the ableton forum now....

I've tried templates but I hate them. Gotta start completely blank. My template is a blank drum rack and a drum bus. I have Audio Effect chains that I use for certain types of sounds (ie pads, keys, etc) that I reuse sometimes.

I took FL's default template and replaced the sampler with FPC drum sampler...that's my template.

It looks pretty good from the video demonstration and I think the general ethos/workflow makes a lot of sense.

One thing I wasn't clear on was whether the bass instruments it comes with are sampled instruments or if they use the Ableton synths? Do you know?

In fl I have an empty fpc and that's it, however I have routed each empty drum pad to a mixer track of its own, and then routed them further into a few send type mixer tracks, which are then routed to a master drum mixer track.

Took me maybe 15 mins to set up the template and has saved me so much time since.

I've also another one like this which has an instance of massive routed into a mixer track-> frequency split into another 3 -> master massive track.

Saves time like.

FL mixer is setup as follows (all with their corresponding instrument);

Kick 1
Kick 2
Kick bus
Snare 1
Snare 2
Snare bus
Hat 1
Hat 2
Hat 3
Hat open
Hat bus
Perc 1
Perc 2
Perc 3
Perc bus
Beats bus
Bass In
Bass Low
Bass Mid
Bass High
Bass bus
Beats & Bass bus
Slice 1
Slice 2
Slice 3
Slice 4
Slice 5
Slice 6
Slice bus
White noise

All named instruments take the form of FL Sampler channels. All Slices are instances of Slicex. The bass in is left empty but defined, so anything can be inserted in for the instance routing. White Noise is an instance of 3xOsc set to a single noise voice, with an Fruity Filter on the mixer channel setup to high pass for easy white noise sweep automations.

All busses have an instance of Voxengo Span on them, with a custom preset to make the display speed slightly faster. Voxengo Span is also on the master for monitoring purposes, along with a copy of Edison for capturing stuff, and a copy of Fruity Notepad so I can make notes on what changes are required/have been done over various versions of a project.
