Hi guys, I live in the UK and am currently looking at uni courses for music production (composition). I was wondering whether anyone here has studied any similar courses, and whether they are worthwhile. It would also interest me to know if any famous dubstep producers went to uni for production :) I'm currently in my first year of college so there's no rush, but I want to start looking now because I don't want to waste 2 years of my life doing something that won't help me

I am also first year of college and I have been wandering the same thing. So I done the usual google/youtube business, asked my friends and lecturers as well as reading some interviews with producers. From this I gathered that it just depends how you prefer to learn. Some people like the structure of a university or college and some people prefer to just jump in at the deep end and try find somewhere to learn the ropes. You could always do a uni course and find a studio to be a runner/tea boy on weekends or evenings if your worried about one being better than the other, that way you also get the best of both worlds. But I know people who have gone down either one of those routes and they are all at different stages of their courier, some ahead of others, but it hasn't got anything to do with whether they went to uni or not.

I have a pretty well paying job and I'm willing to get a small-ish student loan so money isn't really the issue

i've read that a lot of people say its a bit of a waste of money. many argue that they learned more just researching and practicing on your own.

it depends on you and your habits though. if you can be persistent without guidance then id say invest your money elsewhere. if you don't have the willpower to struggle through teaching yourself then id say its def worth it. if your parents were rich id say fuck yes.
