Help me buy my decks

Post by meanmrcustard » Fri Jan 06, 2012 12:42 pm

No, it's not another one of those threads, begging for money, I'm looking for Technics at the moment, found a couple of deals, but I'm still not 100% sure which (if any) is the best deal.

Offer 1:
2x 1210 mk3s
Behringer DJX700 Mixer
Concord Carts/Needles (doesn't specify model)
Stand
2 boxes of records
£499

Offer 2:
2x 1210 mk2s
Gemini 626 mixer (in pretty poor nick apparently)
Ortofon Carts/needles (again model not specified)
Stand
£450

I'm tempted by the boxes of random vinyl, but lets face it, they're probably crap!

So ninjas, stop me getting mugged off! Assuming both sets of decks are fully working, which would be the best deal?

I've heard nothing but bad things about Behringer mixers, never used them before, why are they so bad?

To be honest, I'll be upgrading the mixer and carts eventually once I'm out of the financial shitstorm buying these decks, and sorting Outlook tickets/travel will put me into. So they're not *too* important.

Basicially, what I wanna know is whether they're reasonable value? Assuming they actually work like..

Cheap internal components, tendendancy to go wrong, shitty customer service and the build quality of a watery turd.

Offer 1 sounds like what I got apart form with technics instead of numark decks. The behringer mixer is a hunk of rancid arse that you'll want shot of rapidly but it's still the better deal

Cheers for the help!

So offer 1 is the best, and it's not a rip off right? If not, might have to have a look at these this weekend.

It's best to get a high end mixer after a few years, but for the first 1-3 years of your DJ career a behringer isn't that bad for home use.
A lot of people that say Behringer is shit haven't even had one. Pioneer, Ecler, A&H, ... are all way better than behringer but still.
Mine still works after all these years. They say; buy cheap, buy twice. But what if you buy a £600 mixer and then stop mixing after 6 months?
You can resell but you'll lose more money. Anyway, your call.

I'm saving for a Xone:42 now.

I've used that Behringer mixer plenty; and if you're just using it at home to fuck around with, I wouldn't see a problem with going for the first option.

It's about dropping a track at the wrong speed, and it sounding better than the real thing.

DEFINITELY

Both the mixers are shit, but offer one is MK3's so you'd be silly not to go for it.
Although having said that, I'd want to know the exact condition of both sets of decks before I'd make a choice myself. I'd rather go for MK2's than a MK3 with a dodgy platter/tonearm/etc for instance.

Plus, no matter how shit the two boxes of records are, you could sell them for £50 or something.
