Turning Arpeggiator Midi into a new midi. (Arpeggiator)

Post by dude2 » Wed Jan 11, 2012 7:41 pm

Ok...lets say that i record some long notes. I want to make it faster...so i add an arpeggiator. Now i wanna take one part and make it a different instrument for a Dubstep track. I could take the original midi file and put it into the new instrument track, but what if i need to go even farther than that?

What im asking is...in Ableton the arpeggiator adds more notes, but you cant directly edit those notes. Can i convert the midi track into a loop that includes the arpeggiator notes it added?

Sorry if thats hard to understand.

i don't know a quick way to convert arpeggiator runs into MIDI data. but you could bounce the arp to audio and use an audio -> midi conversion

What blackmath said. Might have to set the MIDI in on your new MIDI track to your MIDI track with the arp on it too. Can't remember off the top of my head. Don't forget to arm your new MIDI track before recording.

Yeah, you can do it easily.

When I want to record the output of an Arp, I do this:

1. Write in my midi notes for the arp to work with.
2. Create a new midi channel.
3. Set the input of the new midi channel to the arp channel.
4. Hit arm and record.

This is also helpful and applicable for plugins like tonespace2 and 7aliens W2 Harmonizer.
