Monitors advice - is it worth me up grading to...

i've currently got a pair of tapco s5's but i'm thinking of upgrading to something around the £400 mark (new). been looking at krk rokit 6/8, some tanoy reveal or the yamaha hs80s
the tapcos weren't awful when they first came out and i'm just working in my bedroom (untreated etc.) so i'm not sure if it's going to be worth my money. it just seems when i've sent tracks to a few people, they seem to pick up on things or hear things that my ears aren't hearing and/or these tapcos aren't representing (too little bass, high hats too high in the mix, not enough highs etc etc).
given the situation i'm working in, is it even worth my money, or shall i save it until i can get some even better monitors?
i'm not asking about specific monitors as i know a lot of that is personal preference i just wanna know if it's worth my time and effort to go out and on the hunt for some new ones.
thanks!

I rocked Tapco S8 for a few years (I still have and use them, not primary though) and upgraded to Adam A7 recently
Don't bother with KRK imo - they sound similar to Tapco in their quality, even more so in that price range.
If you can't be bothered to save, go for the Yamahas or Tannoy. Perhaps Fostex.
My advice would be to save up £500-800 and get some Adam monitors cos they fucking rock

yeah i've heard a lot of good things about the adams monitors. ramadanman said in his recent rbma interview that he got a pair and they really improved his production and mixing as he could really hear exactly what he was doing and it taught him about a lot more about sound etc etc. it was that interview that kinda sparked my query about upgrading really. i cant current afford to go into the £500+ category but was wondering if the jump to a £400 pair of speakers from my sp5's would be worth it. especially as i'm not working in a treated room...

Out of those for new i'd go with Rokit 8's personally.
But I'd much rather look into a second hand pair think it was previously mentioned something like the adams would be great if you could get some A7's!

rokits and tannoy reveals are a lateral move from those tapco's. i find the rokits nice and punchy, but incredibly exhausting to work on.
I had reveals years ago; bought 'em used dirt cheap and did a lot of work with them, but they were really mushy in the midrange and hard to make mix decisions on.
Adams are lovely and you can work for days w/o getting overly fatigued-- those ribbon tweeters are no joke.
my suggestions would be to save up and if you really want to upgrade, really upgrade.

apart from wub's rather short reply

i think this is pretty much the general consensus. i guess i'll just try and get the most out of the sp5's as i can and upgrade to some £500+ monitors when i can afford to. seems like jumping up to some monitors is the price range i'm thinking may simply not be worth it.
