Adding a sub to my pair of RP6's

Anyone know if there is a way I can get a smaller or cheaper quality subwoofer that I can use instead of the $399 KRK Subwoofer? I have the RP6 monitors and would like to just add some of that low end bass to my mix.

Thx you lovely peepz!

you're going to either want to spend the 399 and get the KRK sub or the yamaha sub as if you get anything cheaper you are probably hurting your monitoring more than helping it (unless you build your own sub). There aren't really any cheaper home-studio-quality monitoring subs around, and your only other option would be buying larger / more powerful monitors (assuming your room is already treated). So IMO save up and buy the krk or better.

the fostex pm0.5 8" 110W sub is pretty nice. it goes down to like 20-25hz, which is decent. I'm sure its enough to hear some low end and you don't want it too overpowering either.

if he only hears "some" low end, he will most likely end up overpowering it, don't you think?

i think he meant the "some" is good, saying it's not overpowering
not that he's going to turn it up more

exactly. i know for a fact that people using the krk sub wayyy under power it in order for it to sound balanced for monitoring.

the fostex sub you could just use at a medium volume and it would be plenty to have a balanced sound.
