understanding chords

thought I'd post this as chord progression is something I've always struggled with and this tutorial has explained a few things that i know will help me in the future.

halfway down the page:
Notes can clash, and chords can clash too. If you want an example, play a C major chord followed by an A major one.
those two chords definitely sound good together. Its actually giving me ideas for tracks right now.

It's kind of subjective as to what 'clash' means here. They do clash in terms of the frequencies they explained, but you may well think it sounds good.

That's weak that they are deterring people from using certain chord progressions...fucking Debussy did everything in like the late 1800s, stuff that was much more daring than C major to A major...

Well I don't think he's discouraging anyone. There's a method or rules to theory. As my professor says, there's theory on one end experimentation on the other and the good stuff is in the middle.
