Like all good things, it’s taken a while to surface, but after three years of existing on the internet as a website, mix blog and general theatre of opinion, Sonic Router is now also a record label. To quote one of our good friends our label was ‘established after receiving the sort of demo that makes you want to start a record label’. The demo in question came from 18 year old Torus, (formerly known as Deadstokdonut – the moniker under which he released ‘Television Spleen’ on Lowriders Record’s Beatitude compilation) and his self titled debut EP.

6 tracks long it’s a deft exploration of mood that sets a torrent of found samples, ambient swirls and little wayward riffs to post-Dilla drum patterns. It’s hazy, crackly hangover music. A collection of tracks that manage to sound archaic before they’ve even been mixed down, fusing Joeri Woudstra’s unique approach to production with a sense of isolation and introspection.

Out: 12th March 2012.

The Torus EP will be released on limited edition cassette (with an additional beat tape of unreleased material included on the B side). The digital version of the EP will be extended with remixes from Slugabed and Dynooo.

Where can you buy this from?

I know it's not out quite yet but Sonic Router have their own online shop or what?

We’re stoked to announce that you can now pre-order the cassette version of the Torus EP at our bandcamp store. We’ll be shipping them from the 12th March.

Pre-order the cassette version here: http://bit.ly/srr001pre

£7 gets you one of the hand stamped, hand numbered limited edition white cassettes with risograph printed, munken paper artwork, assorted inserts, an exclusive 16 minute beat tape of Torus material that’s more focused on the club environment on the B side and an instant download of the extended digital version of the EP – which features the remixes from Ninja Tune’s tallest beat smith, Slugabed, and one of Belgium’s most wanted alt-producers, Dynooo.

The Dynooo Remix looks and sounds like this:

Documentary filmmaker Nikola Zecevic has also just made a short documentary about Torus – that’s a screenshot from it you saw at the head of this post. He filmed the whole thing on his Super 8 camera and has made a gorgeous and bespoke film clip about Torus, his music and The Hague, the city they both live in.

The Torus EP will be available digitally from the 12th March.

Got this in the post today, really like it. The B-Side is just as good as the A-Side.

Definitley makes sense to buy the tape considering you get the beat tape on the B-side and the digital version for free anyway.
