I am perhaps a little bit too naive/stupid, but could you guys recommend me something to get more atmosphere/space in tracks? I'm pretty new in producting dubstep and I can only find tutorials to make loud/party stuff and basslines like Skrillex and so on. I'm sure you know some little known sites which can provide more than that. If so, I would really appreciate it, if you would share them.
And please don't say something like "DID YOU EVEN SEARCH FOR *RANDOM*?!" (and don't break my neck for asking something like that ), because I'm counting on you guys
Cheers

There's a thread about field recording and much being discussed in this forum about binaural recordings. Try that, throw it into a granular synth or apply fxes. Time stretch stuff. My favorite ambients come from stretched vinyl noise sent through absynth's aetherizer. Be creative.

great tutorial to get you started on pads and such. pretty much all of this can be applied to samples as well (long attack, release, reverbs etc)

Absynth is great for atmospheres, can make some really good pad sounds. Also film scores and paul stretch, literally make 10's of long drawn out atmospheres with minimal effort in a few hours, its just all about picking the rite scores to sample.

saw or square wave, two oscillators to beef up the sound, and pitch down an octave each. Lowpass it to where you like, add reverb, and chorus, increase the size. open up a parametric eq and eq out the bass and roll off the highs (12k and up) leaving just the mids. that should be a solid pad.

Hey thanks for the quick answers. o.O NIIIICE! Thx!
Didn't think that I would get an answer until tomorrow evening.
I must try out the mentioned things this weekend. I have many exams this week :/.

As far as pads go, Distance has a great and pretty simple tutorial about it on his YouTube.
I also use a site called the Freesound project for some atmospheres. someone had done some field recording of a thunderstorm, and i got those samples, compressed em, put a tiny bit of reverb on em, and put em in my track

Time stretch samples, I like using vocals a lot. Layer. Automate modulation FX like phaser, chorus, delay. High passed reverb. Also I will often just build a 64 bar sound scape, bounce it, and then start making the rest of the track. All you need to know is the key of your track at that point.
Try building just the atmospheric portion of your track first, get it sounding amazing and full and evolving, then move on.
And yes, Absynth is the tits for pads. Check out Green Oak Crystal for a free VST that is similar to Absynth.

any sound can be a pad with enough delay, reverb and careful eqing
