Hey all,
I could really do with some input on my setup. I have spent quite a long time working ITB am happy with my knowledge on synthesis but now want to breakout into a hybrid setup. Really finding the routings a steep learning curve at the moment though. I can work with each element singly and I know what I want to do but how to make it all work seamlessly is becoming a complete pain in the ass. So I have a few questions:

1. Can I connect the turntable directly to the Fireface? If not what do I need? I have a mixer but would prefer not to send it through that as I feel it colors the sound

2. I feel I'm a bit short of both Audio I/O and especially Midi I/O. Is it going to be worth me getting something like the Motu Midi Express XT.Do I need some kind of midi patchbay. Or would it be better to look at some kind of mixer?

Just want to hook my stuff up and get on with making tunes really. Help is much appreciated :R:

I don't know anything about what you're talking about but please don't tell me you're producing on a Dell Dimension 3000 :o)

my actual dj mixer is just a djm600 so no midi or anything unfortunately
unless your asking about the mixing controller in the pic which is a vcm600. i never did get into digital djing and ended up sticking with vinyl/serato so i'm using it in my production setup instead

So you have all this kit and no idea how to connect it at all. Wow.

No, of course I know how to connect it up. However, there are 2 things where I am coming stuck specifically. Before I was using a S/C which had RCA type inputs and with the inputs being phono leads from the turntables I could plug them straight in. Now with the FF I'm not sure what I need to go between the turntable and the fireface other than using the djm600. Actually the Vermona is the new bit of kit. I have no experience with stuff like midi boxes like motu express and I'm wondering if it's worth getting something like this rather than keeping on adding hardware and chaining it or rooting around plugging and unplugging (although I'm pretty much done for a while) Does this make sense?

Kind of.

You should take you time adding hardware to you set up. Each piece is going to take some time to learn. I'd worry about that first before going balls deep on your wallet. You'll only get frustrated trying to learn so much equipment at once.

I took a long time inside the softsynths before coming outside of the computer and getting a few bits of kit as well. I'm fine with synthesis/playing and using each instrument etc but sometimes you come across an area where you haven't gone yet..like I never ran out of in/outs before because I didn't have loads of hardware. I'm not trying to parade around a new setup and I wish I'd never posted that picture now
