From the three choices listed, what would you guys say the best bang for your buck would be?

1. M audio sbx10

2. JBL lsr 2310sp

3. KRK 10s

What monitors do you have or plan to use with the subs?

I'd say M-Audio or KRK's. I don't know any of tbem specifically but I don't think I've seen JBL's used for any EDM mixing/producing before.

For now I'm stuck with crappy M-audio AV40's, but I will be upgrading to JBL LSR 5" monitors soon.

You might wanna go with the lsr sub then

heres a real subwoofer. its in my truck, wouldn't put it in my studio

15", 2k watts rms, box is 4.15 net cubic feet, tuned to 36hz (built it myself)

All of that stuff is serious money and aimed at the hifi audiophile market. Stick with studio monitor companies not hifi gear. I'd go for the JBL out of that list over M audio, and not a fan of KRK stuff.

Personally I have a Tapco sw10 (made by Mackie) and it works very well with my Mackie HR624s, think its discontinued now mind.

My favourite sub ever, the jl audio w7. These things move a serious amount of air and sound awesome.

yeah my sub slaps real fucking hard. I'm not a huge fan of w7's. my 1 15" is much louder and sounds better than my friends 13" w7. granted i don't think his box is tuned correctly for the sub. and he doesn't quite have as much power going to his. my AQ sub is custom built with aluminum coils to handle more power. also jl subs are WAYYY over price. dd, aq and sundown nightshades are some of my favorite subs

hmm sounds like he hasn't got it set up very well. you're is ported, which gives a boost too, plus you have 2kw running to it. a 13w7 needs at least 1kw to get it going, preferably 1.5kw. so if he has 3, he's way underpowering them. plus you're saying about the box being tuned, if he has 3 he'd need a massive box. and if its ported it'd need to be even bigger to get the tuned frequency down low.

the best thing about the w7's is that they sound good. a lot of subs hit harder but sound like crap. a lot of people even get used to hearing distortion and think the w7 is quieter just because its putting out a clean sine wave.

yeah i agree they're pricey, they weigh a ton and need a serious power supply to get them going. plus to get the best out of them you really need a shit load of sound deadening and a box made of 1 inch thick mdf. but they sound so awesome, its addictive!

his box is ported too and he has 1200w rms going to his 1x 13" w7. he doesn't have 3 of them, he has 1 idk where you got 3 from...i said 13". but he just bought a box that fit his sub, which is not specifically tuned for the w7 or anything. his sub does not slam close to as hard as mine does and his sub also doesn't slam the lows like mine, and he has loud peaks at like 50hz where mine sounds relatively even...but i attribute a lot of this to his box. where my box i built it tuned to 36hz which the aq hdc really enjoys, and i also accounted for the volume that my specific sub displaces when in the box. also put corner pieces in to smooth out the corners especially around the port, which helps it sound better due to airflow, also accounted for these corner pieces in my measurements for volume and tuning. its actually pretty complex building a really nice box tuned to fit your sub and the space you have to work with.

and btw my sub does not sound like crap, the SQ is on par with my boston acoustics sub which praises SQ. and my sub fucking slams HARD like take your breath away, float a soda can against my window hard. I'm just saying people that jerk off w7's are like people that like skrillex, they like em because they ARE good and are popular, but there is better out there, for less. but i too like jl w7's, i just wouldn't buy them because i know i can get better for cheaper.

btw my sub weighs 65 lbs

yeah i know the work that goes into it, i've built a few over the years. its good fun! haven't made a ported box in a few years, i prefer sealed now as they sound a bit more musical. ported goes louder tho.

i wasn't saying yours sounds like crap, just that people underestimate the w7. jl always underrate their products, the 1000/1 amp for example has been benched at over 1.3kw rms, the subs can take 2kw easily. whereas a lot of other manufacturers will have claims of 2000w, but in reality struggle to put out 500. i know there's other good stuff out there, but theres also a hell of a lot of crap. i stuck with jl because i know what i'm getting and love the sound.

the w7 is over 10 years old now, i'm hoping they'll update it soon.

yeah man the w7's are a really good sub. i do love the sound of them when boxed and powered properly. truly amazing.

a family friend owns memphis audio so i have to rep that. but i've never owned one. When I was getting my amp serviced one time a dude with 3 or 4 w7's was in the garage and when they cranked it all of the stuff for sale hanging on the walls in the show room started falling off! About as loud as being in the back of a bassnectar show. those murfs move a lottttt of air. your sub physically can't be louder than a w7 all things being equal, just look at the TS parameters. your excursion and surface area are probably way less.

no man your mistaken. my 15" hdc has a lot of excursion and being a bigger driver will push more air than a 13" w7. i've heard a lot of w7's and mine seems to out thump them all. my sub can also handle over 2k watts. I'm not docking w7s because i do like them a lot. just saying i don't think their louder than my setup. although I'm not sure if they might have better tonal quality. thats preference i guess.

yeah it looks nice. good to see someone who does it properly with regard to the alternator and battery. i've seen so many people fitting capacitors thinking its going to solve their power issues!

yeah my friends are like that. "dude my lights were dimming so i got a capacitor". capacitors are the biggest waste ever, if you don't have enough power generating to power everything in your car and the sub, then you won't have enough power to cover the car sub and fill the capacitor with juice, it doesn't work that way.

but I'm actually looking at getting an FI-Q sub in a similar enclosure but tuned to 30hz, the FI-Q sub is a little more musical and will hit the lows better, but also puts out almost as much as my current sub.

I have two subs on that list both of which I bought for under 300 used... And I guarantee my setup is leaps and bounds ahead of any studio monitor setup you'll buy for anywhere near this type of money. It's all about scouring used audio gear sites like audiogon. I got my whole high-fi setup (2 subs, 2 towers(with 2 built in subs as well), a receiver and pre-amp for under 1k, new it would have cost closer to 5k.
