Curious about the answer as well, I would have guessed "Bassline House" but I've got very little knowledge in Garage...

I always thought what people called speed garage was just what the music was before the 2 step beat came around, bassline on the other hand is totally different.

Back in '97 people weren't calling it Bassline. Speed Garage was the 4 on the floor of House/Garage with the heavy basslines inspired from Drum & Bass.
It was the style right before 2-Step started happening.

I'm not really sure when the Bassline tag first started. I think I heard it called that in 2001 or so.

I actually almost did, but thought it was too obvious.
I bumped this thread in the Other Music section, but seriously go get this Oris Jay Garage mix. It's so good!

was dancing to a two-step/speed garage/4X4/dark funky set on Saturday
and had to have it all explained yet again the next day...
I never tire of hearing the ZB/Benny Ill inputs.
