Trance
I know very little about this genre. I do know, however, that I really enjoy this song:
And that entire album, for that matter.
I know trance has a pretty bad rep, but I'm not educated enough on the topic to know exactly why. But there are some pretty good tunes out there. So...trance thread.
(And yes, I know theres that one in general discussion, but that's kinda a shit fest.)

Ooo, nice one!
Pardon my ignorance, I'm not 100% on where trance ends and psy-trance begins. And out of curiosity, is there any real difference between psy and goa?

Re: Trance
People who say that Trance is crap dont have the wherewithall to scout the best tracks and make a judgement.
Thats too kind. Anyone who can write off a entire genre of anything is a fucking retard.

Re: Trance
nonsensical garbage aside, how about this to further the argument:
Ok so if I post 100 trance tracks here, then you will be able to intelligently and systematically describe why, in your all-knowing wisdom and compostional/production expertise, 99 of them are shite.
Perhaps using these points as a guideline
* Production Quality
* Inteligence of the expression of melodic/rythmic idea
* Synthcraft
* How it goes down in a venue

I used to love trance when i was like 15/16... but then i grew up. I don't mean that in an insulting way, i just loved it mainly because that was what my idea of club music was. Late 16 and 17 years old i started going out properly and... apart from shit clubs that play radio 1 hits all night.. i realised the clubbing scene was very different. Hence ended up listening to a lot of jungle/garage/drum and bass.. then a phase of bassline and uk funky.
I can't imagine going to see trance DJs on a regular basis like i do dnb and dubstep, trance is pretty dead for me now. Although would love to go Sensation White in Amsterdam.

Re: Trance
Lol I have used the same term in the production forum for dubstep.pikeymobile wrote:terms like this are why trance is awfulBringer wrote: Synthcraft
When I use the term, i mean the inteligence used to select the various sounds and how they work together, and any intelligent use of automation or of a sounds originality, or of a novel effect chain or any 1 of a hundred different things.
what do you mean exactly?
'synthcraft' was only one thing. you still have to explain why 99/100 suck at the other judgement guidelines.
Just so you know: there is a big difference between: 'i'm not into Trance' and 'all Trance is shit'
