Am i a music nerd?

Post by malakasounds » Tue Feb 21, 2012 8:20 am

Is anyone else super fascinated with the whole process of creating sounds? I love the complexity of splitting up frequencies and having to put certain plug ins before or after others. Ive been producing for about 5 months meow so its all really new to me and i think its one of my favorite parts.

Also another question: For someone with little experience and very minimal knowledge of music theory. Should i keep making tracks while i learn about all that? Did any of you stop making songs for a months time and fully focus on the technical part of it? Sorry if this is all gibberish im a tad bit intoxicated :?

this entire board is made up of music nerds

I made music while learning, it helped to reference improvements, issues, etc.
As you learn it is a great help to go back and improve previous issues.
Very satisfying to correct a previous concern and make it sound awesome.

nah, doing is learning .... the more often you produce, the more you will learn.
plus, theres bare amounts of information here, more than enough to help you on your quest for knowledge

i am interested in making sounds, but not
Super fasinated
by the process, but it is good u have found ur strength though, it will get more tough if u force urself to do something ur not so keen on like studyign the musical theory as u suggested.

i am th eopposite, to u, so i have to force myself to do more and more sound synthesis but my music theory is of a reasonable standard so i dont have to worry about that.

i would say its up to u to make that decision, sometimes a break from production is a welcome change other times, implementing what u have jsut learnt on a song is very practical and satisfying.

Not true, as established a year or so back - I am just a art cigarette who makes music.

Learn music theory as much as you can but training your ear is more important. You can have all the theory in the world but when it comes to getting sounds to fit that comes from experience.A balance of both is what you need.also i would sooner burn to death or drown then lose the ability to listen to music so does that make me a nerd or a tad bit obsessive?
