Anybody else ever get bogged down with this? I've been producing a year now and never really hit a plateau where i just haven't been into making it until now. Just wondering if others have gone through this, and then get back into it?

I think it's due to the feeling, I haven't really progressed much in a year due to never having enough time to spend with the art.

Surprised nobody else goes through these drop out periods.

i have a mood disorder so i get that like every 2 weeks, i'm sure it's happened to everyone at some point or other

i wouldn't worry about it, just wait for something to come back to you. maybe try a different medium for a while, like an instrument or style, experiment with creating something different and use that as inspiration. i used to write and it was easy for that to dry up because i never got into the habit of training myself to just produce "stuff". even if you don't want to make a full blown track, you can just spend half an hour on an idea if you have one and then leave it.

This isn't just in music. Everybody doing anything that requires time, effort and creativity hits a point of this.. usually multiple times. Take a break, you can't force it. Don't completely stop doing stuff still playing around with bits, read some music theory. Don't produce just because you want to get good or better, produce when you get an idea and want to follow through on that idea.

Also this should probably be in the production forum.

i've been producing for just over a year i find theres times when im not feeling it, and i know lots of people who have the same problem. i wouldnt worry about, just chill and at some point you'll be up for it again! also i find gettin high helps, and if it doesnt at least you'll be high as well!

When the beats aint flowing get on some sampling I find it gives you ideas as you go or make some VST presets its all productive. But you know you can never force it and if you try and force it it will just make you feel worse.

Don't sweat it, I've just opened FL Studio for the first time in about 2 months because I've been so busy. Maybe hit up some guys for a collab? It's worked for me, bit of pressure knowing that somebody else is expecting you to come through with the goods might help, plus it kind of eases you back into it, knowing that you don't have to come up with everything yourself.

Just an idea, but remember, it's not the end of the world just to not make music for a bit.

go listen to old jazz and indian ragas. step away from electronic music. go back and listen to the stuff you listened to before dubstep

Smoke crack. Yes.

Why not try smoking some different music and listening to some crack?

what i do is enter a bunch of competitions

remix competition/beat battles

that usually gives me some inspiration

Listen to some completely different types of music for a while and you'll be back with tons of inspiration

Make a pointless thread on a forum for sympathy and advice when all you really need to do is smoke crack?

Make a different genre or read the other half a million threads about writers block

If I CBF producing... I DJ for a bit til I get inspiration again... keeps things fresh

This. When I lose creativity, I try to learn more technically, and when I find something cool and new technically, I'm excited to try it out and the creativity returns.

Don't force it, because it will be shit. I lost my passion for about 2 years and didn't make anything, then I came back with a fresh head and started and made the best stuff of my life.. just take a break and focus on something else to challenge you
