i did this and on 'go to web history' i got a page that said 'this is your web history here is what it is blah blah blah blah' then two options 'no thanks' or 'turn on web history'
i clicked no thanks
but thats different to what the instructions said
either way im not bothered about google knowing what i search for, there's nothing incriminating in there but i'd still like to just be in control of it so haveidunitwrong or what?

Done. Thanks. Being able to see all my search history is slightly unnerving.

also just regular gmail. If you have a gmail account, just go to google.com and log in on that account. then you should just follow the steps from the above website.

I had the same thing happen. I read about it and apparently that means you selected to not have Google keep your web history in the first place. If people just selected that when they made their account they would have nothing to worry about. Not a big deal really.

I'm mostly using
http://www.blackle.com/ now anyways, because I fucking hate the full white background of google at night, it's like staring into the fucking sun.
Would that solve anything you think? Or is this basically still the same. I don't know.

Jokes if you think hotmail/MS etc don't do the same thing.
Anyway, who puts real info on their email/youtube? There shouldn't be a way to identify you, and they would need court orders to do such and by then you're probably fucked as it is haha. I think most people actually concerned wiith privacy would not have their identity on those services to tie them into this in the first place.
Vishes, you can change the background to whatever you want.

find it strange that people worry about privacy when they willingly post all sorts of personal things in the hideout
you could find all sorts about a lot of people just by trawling through the threads on dsf
