after a year of becoming more and more urban, i recently saw steve bug at the loft studios, which totally changed my outlook on production and made me get back into minimal/deep house/tech house again, although i still have my reservations over the predictability of those genres- it made me produce a minimal track that im actually quite fond of,

Soundcloud

does this happen to you guys? or are u totally locked in to one genre i.e. dubstep,

can u manipulate ur sound well enough to traverse across genres or do u struggle sometimes like i do??

its good to experiment i find.

I always love to experiment, that's why all my own tracks sound completely different from one another. lol
I think the best way to learn is to experiment! You should never be locked down to a specific genre!

^ chill track btw :W:

I find my social isolation very inspiring. I can conceive EDM outisde an EDM environment, that's been producing some great results for me.

I saw Levon Vincent on Saturday and had the opposite experience - his own records are brilliant, but fuck a lot of techno is dull, from the records he was playing anyways.... Minimal can be shockingly boring.

Def try tracks in different genres, will give you something original from all the different influences. Try programming a garage or jungle drum loop...

I actually find a lot of times i get inspired and get new ideas at live shows.

its awesome to just watch and see what gets the crowd moving, how certain techniques create that anticipation, and all that stuff

its made me much more concious of making tracks progress every step of the way and always have leading parts and not just stagnant loops

When I produced psy trance, I had a friend that started producing it too, even gave him a few tips. He wasn't very good at it. He then decided to make some minimal because he said it was more interesting to produce.

The guy is Louie Cut who has had 6 tracks simultaneously at beatport's minimal top 100 including both top 1 & 2 and is traveling the world right now ;)

Yeah I saw him aswell! Thought it was pretty sick but compared to the variety of Joy O's set it wasn't that interesting, didn't really get the crowd going as much.
