So erm....recording mixes?
Hey guys, it's Ben here, with another noob ass question about mixing.
So yeah I got teh CDJ400s and beatmatching n all.
How do I record a mix?
-Can't use traktor because im using an external mixer(not connected by usb)
-Can't record into my soundcard cus I dont have RCA ins.
What's the cheapest/best way to record a mix using standalone CDJs/Mixer?

Re: So erm....recording mixes?
Does your interface have 1/4" ins? If so, then you can use 1/4" to rca leads.
Re: So erm....recording mixes?
Buy a Stereo Male RCA to 3.5mm Stereo jack cable. Run the RCAs from the mixer (usually there is a record out or booth out that should suffice) back into a standard line in on a sound card. You could even use a second shit laptop and audacity to jsut grab the mix instead of trying to get it to record on the laptop/pc your mixing from.

What mixer do you have? What sort of audio interface do you have?
Use audacity, or get the demo version of FLStudio and use Edison, both are free, you need a good audio recorder and editor anyway, if you dont have one, youve no business posting in production
You can do two things here -
For best sound quality, get a single rca to 3.5/quarter-inch, whatever your computers input is. Attach that to the record out on your mixer if it has one, those are usually at line level, vs. the master outputs are usually amped, you want to be at line level or your interface/pc is gonna clip to hell and possibly get damaged by the overflow of power...
Other option is going to include a good bit of line noise in the recording, but it worked fine for me for ages as well, so its not that god aweful, and its one of your only last-ditch efforts if you dont have a record out. Get a single rca to double rca cable, and an adapter head for your input jack. Put the split rca cable on your mixers master out, plug one into your monitors and one into your PC input, turn your mixers master volume fader OFF, and turn your monitors/system the whole way UP. Hit record on the PC, and very gently, tap the master fader so its just barely on. Watch the recording really closely while you do, make sure it doesnt overpower and clip, and just mix like that.
