Best sample pack for juicy kick drums?

Post by OfficialDAPT » Fri Mar 09, 2012 6:49 pm

Please just don't say "vengeance." If it is vengeance, i'd like to know which one out of the many packs they make. I currently own the xfer sample pack and some vengeance sample packs but a lot of the kicks suck. Don't get me wrong there are some good ones but I haven't been impressed overall. The music I make mostly is Dubstep btw.

You tried making you own yet? After reading some stuff id be interested in using a 909kick, 808kick and maybe even a tom or to layered to taste along with ample amounts of comrpressio on the higher punchy freqs and then cut the 808 or sidechain it with the bassline so you get a "juicy" kick drum.

Vengeance... there's a new one just come out, got some nice sounds in it. I also like to make my own, kicklab is quite good for this.

Layer up samples :W: From what I can tell, a lot of the "popular" producers use vengeance samples anyways.

I wouldn't look for just "dubstep" genre sample packs...

and check out loopmasters, just browse around, their sample packs are all GOLD imo

yeah it doesn't really matter about the genre. i saw a pack the other day that said 'dubstep strings' and i thought wtf are dubstep strings? seems more of a marketing tool than anything imo. just hunt through the samples until you find ones you like that fit your tune.

Does anyone have recomendations on frquencies to listen for when choosing kicks to layer?

sounds silly.. but I think I remember DJ Fresh talking about this.

It seems like someone might know.. considering you get all the "clicks" of producers having similar sounding kicks that just aren't quite the "same"..

e.g. the hardcore darkside (limewax, dylan, current value) drum n bass kick compared to a liquid (icicle, alix perez) drum n bass kick

I've been pretty happy with Driven Machine Drums and Driven Machine Drums Strikes Back. Your best bet is to download the Demo samples and check them out.

My favourites are: halftones free pack which you can get here on DSF, I also have a ton of dnb packs, my favourites being octane and DlR's (especially good for kicks and snares) and Danny Byrd's. The only good dubstep pack I've ever come across is phaeleh's.
