Very slight monitor hiss :(

Hey,

Just got my KRK Rokit rp5's. They are sick but if I put my head up to the speaker they emit a slight hiss.. Could get annoying further down the line but right now barely noticeable.

Got em hooked up to a lexicon alpha audio interface with one XLR cable in the back of the right speaker, and one RCA cable in the back of the left one (both connected to the lexicon obvs).

Is it natural for this to happen? I can live with it but a bit peeved considering the amount of dollla I ended up spending on everything.

Safe/

KRK's are pure shit, apparently they all have this hiss. My Rokit 8's have it even with no cables plugged in, i wish i'd done a bit more reading before i bought them.

Well the rca cables seem to be producing the high pitched squeel but the XLR cable just has a very low very quiet hiss, so I guess the solution is to get another XLR connection, but either way... wtf..

Amps make white noise when they "create" power.

More expensive amps tend to have less hiss in them.
Dirty power to an amp can increase noise. Power conditioners can help this.
Unbalanced (rca/minijack) signals can cause noise. Use Balanced connections whenever possible.
Ambient EMI can cause this or add to the problem. Dont run other shit on the same electical circuit as your monitors. Generators, motored devices, hair dryes, vapes and other high resistance low quality electronic items.

Im not saying this will fix any problem you are having but hiss from a speaker, especially lower end stuff like KRK monitors, is very normal.

This has always bugged me about my KRKs. I used them as speakers for my laptop, and I can easily hear the his from where I sit. Recently I've switched to using a high-fi system with a much cheaper Cambridge Audio amp and there is no hiss at all.

I solved this problem by buying a ground loop isolator. I found that the mains electricity of my laptop was interfering with the monitors, but as soon as I bought this £3 little gizmo the problem disappeared. Got the recommendation from a friend at his recording studio in East london. Pretty tech savvy guys, and always willing to help out free of charge.

See this hasn't been mentioned.

If you have your audio interface setup in your DAW as an input and output you might see this

If you have an audio bus set to input it could be picking up audio interference, even if nothing was plugged in.. I would try to disable your Interface as an audio input and see if you have the same issue. Its generally with shittier interfaces, but its worth a shot.
