So in the production categories, the song a week thread is vastly popular and gets a lot of attention from everyone. However for those of us who would like to show off our DJing talent there is nothing like that... I was considering starting a similar thread in the mix category entitled " A mix a week" where i would choose the first theme, and after that the winner of every week, judged by # of plays + # of comments via soundcloud would choose the theme. How many people are behind this idea/ want this to happen ?

Don't think I can enter this, playing vinyl means its harder to meet criteria.

but 1/2 the tunes would end up being repeated each week (for me atleast )

Seems like a big circle jerk idea to me - plus judging based on comments/SC plays would just turn the whole thing into a vote begging fest.

Okay, If it shouldn't be judge that way, how should it be judged TO BE FAIR. Besides that marketing is a huge factor in the DJ culture, so that was my thinking behind judging it the way I was thinking...

What do you mean by 'theme'? Would be interesting but I can't really think of many 'themes' for mixing that would work.. different genres, and if you want subgenres, but people who mix probably won't have enough variety to mix a different genre/subgenre every week... especially those who mix vinyl. Something like week 1 dungeon, week 2 tearout, week 3 house/~130bpm, week 4 early dubstep.. horsepower productions, early dmz, early skream ect. then repeating each month.. i think that format would work much better than the winner choosing a theme each week.

hard to turn this into a competition. while I support the idea, I definitely don't want to listen to anywhere between 10 to 30+ hours worth of (and lets be fair, it will be) repetitive mixes every week just to decide which I like best.

5 to 10 minute mini mixes would be cool imo

I like this idea... Still haven't heard any better ideas on judging... And your right this is kinda unfair to those on vinyl... So let's say i just used "categories" Such as Dirty/Heavy, Chill/Deep, MAYBE brostep, and expiremental switching out weekly.

What about a DSF mixcloud? Every week (or longer) someone from the forum is picked to do a half hour/hour long set.

What If we have 3 non-participating judges (after the first few times it could be previous winners/ people who keep the thread up?) and they vote and thats how each winner is chosen, with the prize being rep representing DSF on Mixcloud and becoming a judge for 3 weeks ?

We could just have each winner pick the next winner for simplicity sake, but I have fears that that may just turn into a best friend game

Lets keep them less than 15 minutes to keep em fresh and fast.

id say between 15-20 minutes for a mix.... anything under that is a waste of time

15 min max. poll to decide. winner advances.
