A drum pad, with effects assigned on to it (the knobs) using an effect called beat-gater or something like that.

I wouldn't get one unless I used alot of samples and needed the pads to trigger them.

No, you don't need it to maek skrillex bass

TriggerFinger is nolonger produced FYI. Akai makes comparable controllers to the trigger finger.
