Ableton's Compressor being stupid...

Post by Akadia » Sat Mar 17, 2012 4:06 am

When I throw a compressor on my pad, the output gain keeps randomly being lowered without my doing. What the hell Ableton? How do I stop this from happening? I just started having this problem today.

you do know what a compressor does right? is it really random or is it at certain times each time?

Yeah it was and I unchecked it. Should that solve my issue?

well keeping that on usually increases the gain lost from compressing

i think you misunderstanding bro. having it checked would increase your gain lost from compressing. it sounds like you are complaining about the compressor squashing the waveform and lowering the gain. i doubt it happens at random times, my guess is it happens right when you set the attack time. also a compressor is supposed to lower gain, you make up for this buy increasing the output gain...

id say learn a little more about compression before you just start chucking it on shit.

That sounds like it is compressing the sound strangely enough

I know enough about compressors to use them effectively but if you say I should learn more, care to teach me?

But what you're describing sounds like you don't understand compressors at all.
