Ableton's Compressor being stupid...
When I throw a compressor on my pad, the output gain keeps randomly being lowered without my doing. What the hell Ableton? How do I stop this from happening? I just started having this problem today.
Re: Ableton's Compressor being stupid...
you do know what a compressor does right? is it really random or is it at certain times each time?

Is the Makeup button lit up?

Yeah it was and I unchecked it. Should that solve my issue?Skang wrote:Is the Makeup button lit up?
Re: Ableton's Compressor being stupid...
well keeping that on usually increases the gain lost from compressing

Haha well it also usually pisses me offSkang wrote:well keeping that on usually increases the gain lost from compressing

Re: Ableton's Compressor being stupid...
i think you misunderstanding bro. having it checked would increase your gain lost from compressing. it sounds like you are complaining about the compressor squashing the waveform and lowering the gain. i doubt it happens at random times, my guess is it happens right when you set the attack time. also a compressor is supposed to lower gain, you make up for this buy increasing the output gain...Akadia wrote:Haha well it also usually pisses me offSkang wrote:well keeping that on usually increases the gain lost from compressinggood thing that's taken care of. Thanks man.
id say learn a little more about compression before you just start chucking it on shit.

That sounds like it is compressing the sound strangely enoughAkadia wrote:When I throw a compressor on my pad, the output gain keeps randomly being lowered without my doing. What the hell Ableton? How do I stop this from happening? I just started having this problem today.

I know enough about compressors to use them effectively but if you say I should learn more, care to teach me?Eat Bass wrote:i think you misunderstanding bro. having it checked would increase your gain lost from compressing. it sounds like you are complaining about the compressor squashing the waveform and lowering the gain. i doubt it happens at random times, my guess is it happens right when you set the attack time. also a compressor is supposed to lower gain, you make up for this buy increasing the output gain...Akadia wrote:Haha well it also usually pisses me offSkang wrote:well keeping that on usually increases the gain lost from compressinggood thing that's taken care of. But what you're describing sounds like you don't understand compressors at all.Akadia wrote:I know enough about compressors to use them effectively but if you say I should learn more, care to teach me?Eat Bass wrote:i think you misunderstanding bro. having it checked would increase your gain lost from compressing. it sounds like you are complaining about the compressor squashing the waveform and lowering the gain. i doubt it happens at random times, my guess is it happens right when you set the attack time. also a compressor is supposed to lower gain, you make up for this buy increasing the output gain...Akadia wrote:Haha well it also usually pisses me offSkang wrote:well keeping that on usually increases the gain lost from compressinggood thing that's taken care of.
