reese bass help (no not the creation part)

Post by supasinista » Thu Mar 29, 2012 4:08 am

ok, so i have a shit load of modulation in this reese bass and it sounds good on its own. (as in i dont wanna fuck with it anymore or else it will sound like dick) but when i throw in some drums the sound gets all muddy, normally id just eq the reese and everything is golden, however in this instance the reese ends up sounding like dick.

how

do

i

fix

this

EQ the drums?

Would've been better if you posted the audio too

balance the audio levels, eq, compress and maybe sidechain. Standard procedures in your case.

post the audio clip and you'll probably end up getting much better advice. It just sounds to my like you're doing it wrong. Maybe after EQ'ing the reese it sounds thinner. But just because it sounds thinner on its own does NOT necessarily mean it will sound bad in the context of the whole song. Sometimes you have to focus on the song as a whole, rather than focusing on cramming as many frequencies you can into one sound to make it fatter. Maybe it does sound weaker after some heavy EQ, but maybe it'll sound better once all the other elements of the song are brought in?

This. This order he even said it in designates how this should be prioritized. Before you even add an EQ or compressor to an FX chain, make sure your levels are spot on.

ill post the audio file soon, but what im trying to say is that i have a bandpass selecting/automating certain eq frequencies. now, i use the bandpass as a lp filter wobble type thing (except this sounds waaaay cooler). this means i cant really put the reese in its own area in the eq or else it sounds "thin". not to mention eqing the drums really doesnt do much. (however, im not the best at eqing and im trying to get better if there is anyone that can post a decent eq tutorial that would be awesome) but thats just a side note....

thanks for all the feed back x

I don't really get what you are saying... Surely you can EQ it after filtering...?
Waiting for the audio
