Deadline for sending in the application for the Red Bull Music Academy was today. Did anyone else on here go for it? Took me waaaay longer than I had originally anticipated.

Bah, a little late to sort it out now. Still there's always next year, if the world doesn't end that is ;)

Yeah haha I was more thinking in the future, I couldn't get it now anyways, I'm not a good enough producer yet

Red Bull Music Academy, this awesome 2 or 3 week thing that up and coming producers go to and they get to go to lectures by great artists (mala, kode9, ramadanman to name a few) and they get to collaborate with each other and learn from the best about production.

Judging by some of the people I follow on twitter who are applying (Dubbel Dutch, Mele) who are next-level it really kills your motivation to want to apply. That said, i didn't apply, didn't really feel I had a chance, not enough time I felt to perfect anything. I know if you don't apply you have a 0% chance of getting in, but how to get yourself up there? Any one else feel the same way?

what are the qualifications for getting in, exactly? how do they assess you?

Yeah like, I wouldnt really say it is for up and coming producers really, like obviously some of the BIG guys get the chance to lecture there, but if you watch the addison groove one, Om Unit is in taking part and then AG mentions one bit about playing one of OU's tune to him, so like the lecture and participant know each other, and I wouldnt call Om Unit and up and comer. Like alot of guys I listen to took part last year, so you do kind of think how do you have a chance at getting in, when people you admire are getting chosen. There arent any qualifications to get in, ANYONE can get in (they say). I think its like if your work is impressive, innovative, different, interesting, not necessarily good quality, then you have a chance. The massive application form is also a way for them to asses your personality, obviously they want people who would be suited to do it, if you are some shy guy (or gyal) who dont say anything, doesnt interact with people, or just wants to make tracks to get famous or pussy, then they will probably tell that from the application and you wont get chosen. I think they also want a mixture of personalites (not including who I just mentioned haha), and people who do different things, so everyone there can mix with different people, and learn of each other, and gain something. No point getting 60 Dubstep producers in, who make the same shit, and have the same kind of views etc, cos then no one will get any benefit out of it.

I dont think there is a set kind of person you can be to get in, they say not to chat shit in the application as they can tell when you arent being truthful. You just have to answer the questions and be yourself, and be doing something good musically. Then you might have half a chance haha

I think it helps to be someone reasonably big as then it shows you are doing something good, if you have releases, then obviously you must be doing something right. If you have your own label or night, and are putting money into it, then it shows you are passionate about it and believe in what you and others do, so they are going to like that, and think that you have something to offer to everyone else taking part.

So are there unsigned people who get in? Is there a target age group? And how many people are admitted?

Here's the tl:dr:

It's like summer camp for people 21-30 who make music. You need to be really good or creative. You apply, you get picked if you are either of those. You work with other like minded people. bam.

There are some people applying who have releases already out who are really good. It's hard.
