Jah Shaka & Sound System Culture

Post by OneSoundUK » Wed Apr 04, 2012 8:23 pm

It's a given that everyone on here has great taste in music and i'm guessing fairly broad palettes too. With that in mind (and being a reggae obsessive) wanted to share a session that really doesn't seem that far removed from dubstep nights today. Jah Shaka killing it early 80's... http://www.talawa.fr/media/phebes-81-in ... tyle-YaF9j

Here's a couple of early uk sound systems in action...Vibes.

:Q:

Really fell in love with dub in the last few months, probably spend more on dub and reggae than i do on "bass music" lately

Anyone else planning on going to Jah Shaka @ the Tudor Rose in Southall in May?

I'm going the other way at the mo, been into the Digital Roots scene for a bit, but now coming back to dubstep with a vengeance. If you're up for some mixes check out our site, we've been known to mix the two on occasion. Vibes.

Been lucky enough to see Jah Shaka 3 times in my short life, including an incredible 6 hour set at Outlook through Mungo's HiFi rig...I wanted to leave, I really did, but it was just so good :o

Man is honestly a living legend. Too much love for him

Been checking Shaka out for probably around 6 years now!

The sessions down The Rocket have been my favourite but Dingwalls, Sliverspoon, The Dom, Brixton Jamm, Tudor Rose, Concorde 2 (Brighton) etc have all been pretty epic.

The atmosphere, ceremony, ritual, spiritual vibe and general appreciation of Shaka including sound he plays seems to resonate with a lot of people. It is strange but you can sense the anticipation in the dance amongst the very young to the very old who come from all different backgrounds.

The dances have a very different vibe and feeling to them which is nothing compared to any other music events, club nights, festival or even other dub night I have been to.

Proper foundation sound that has been woven into the consciousness of many producers, club owners, promoters and record labels over the years. House, techno, disco, soul, dubstep, garage, rock, jazz, hip hop, jungle, DnB etc would either not exist or be radically different.

If you haven’t attended a dance I would urge you check one out…..
