looking for some speakers to do the basic need of providing alrite sound from a laptop. need to put 2 bad boy portables on my desk and emphasis on portability. at first i was looking for one that is powered by nothing/or usb, but that limits the shit out of the selection, so powere AC is alrite as well. from the research ive done, it seems like the stand outs r Alesis M1Active n the AKAI RPM3. if anyone has experience n prefers either of those two, or have other suggestions, please do tell.

as a note,
i listen to everything. so versatility would be good. doesn't need to be super bass-heavy or be best for hip hop or something.i dont want no dr.dre portable speakers if he makes em, ya know.

thanks in advance for the advice.

thinking bout it, and im definitely looking for the lower price range. maybe even less than under 80? im having a hard time deciding whether i should spend the rest of my paycheck on this, but if there is a decent one for under 50 that might make my decision easy

I'm not sure what currency you are using but under 80 sounds rather cheap. I bought a pair of M-Audio AV40s and while they are ok I wish I had saved up and bought something better. I recommend that you save up a little more and buy 1 decent speaker (maybe one of the KRK ones, they seem reasonably priced) and buy another at a later date. You can use headphones for panning, stereo effects etc.

you'll just be wasting your money. you're better off waiting or buying a pair of headphones

i have two great KRK rokit 8s back home (im from chicago), n itll take a bit before i ship em out. so i need something to be alrite for the meantime. something to just throw in a suitcase n hook up whichever flat i live in. i saw the chill pill/similar design speakers (http://icrontic.com/uploads/2008/12/img_6251.jpg) which are meant to be exactly what i need, but is it worth getting these over using laptop speakers?

i had an austrian buddy who had a great pair of these two that only had a headphone jack. no usb no power cable. we took em out on picnics n chillin by the lake. just straight input into the comp n it had a great sound. or at least pretty loud.

i just need something to walk around the flat to. i know im not getting studio monitor speakers here but im sick of my laptop speakers.

Get the best monitoring headphones you can buy with $80 and an extension cable like this http://www.amazon.co.uk/3-5mm-stereo-pl ... B0000992SR if you want to walk around

Save up 20 quid more for a pair of AKG K240 mkII headphones. They'll serve you much better than cheap shitty monitors.

You can't get decent monitoring for that but for listening just go with one of them 2.1 pc setups.
