Guitar Rig and Amplitube cripple my CPU usage, even just the one instance on a send. Shame, as its one of the most sonic pleasing subtle techniques to enhance a synth line.

these plugins aren't that new tbh, maybe its time for a pc upgrade? the only other guitar amp programs i've used are the waves gtr, or the built in daw ones. ableton has one i think, so does cubase.

or depending on what daw you're using, you might be able to use offline processing. in cubase it just processes the audio file, and i can undo it by going into the offline process history for the file. on ableton there is freeze/flatten which does a similar thing.

you could also just freeze the track, that'd free up cpu.

just out of interest, what are your system specs? have you disabled startup programs/antivirus/background processes etc?

Laptops about 3 years now, and wasnt top-range back then so yeah you're probably right.

Still, competitively, those Plug-Ins seem to use up a lot more than my reverbs, distortions, delays and other utilities. Makes sense as Amplitube is almost a program in itself, so using it as an effect is always going to be intensive.

A few synths have in-built amp effects that do the job nicely, I just want to that as an external effect really. Nothing fancy. Just to add a little grit to samples/synths.

What daw are you using? Freeze track should help.

My lappy is 2008, and i can run guitar rig on hq mode with no problem. I've even had it running at 96khz with no problems, so i'm wondering if you have something else taking up cpu. Mines a core2duo 2.5ghz, 4gb ram and windows 7.

LePou's amps sound fantastic, and aren't CPU heavy. TSE Plugins stuff, too. note that most of the amps listed there don't come with built-in cabinet simulations, which can be a very good thing when working with synths.

Cracks usually run heavy, just saying.
