If I'm reading that right, it's been brickwalled in some places but not in others :|

it looks like half the wave has been clipped, it probably sounds a bit harsh.

I took a listen to it, didn't sound that bad, but you can hear that it's brickwalled.

From the looks of things I'd say that's where the sub bass is. (The bricked parts)

The start I'm guessing could be the last part of a drop where the sub has been removed to create contrast ready for the next bit (or it's the intro) after that you've got the music drop out before the kick roll comes back in and then bammmm with the drop.

@Deadly - did I guess right? :6:

hey can someone explain brickwall/brickwalling to me? is that basically when there's absolutely no headroom left and you've got the mix biting at 0.0 decibels the entire time?

You realize it's because of the sub right? Look at the buildup when the sub drops out of the mix, that brickwalled shape is gone.

Why do you give a fuck what a waveform looks like? People love this shit, you could learn a thing or two from it. Don't act like you're above the loudness war. You're just a reluctant soldier.

Because we pay for records, not distorted, over-limited shite. And because in this case, the looks really do explain the shiteness.

And yeah... so the sub hit, and it pushed the limiter to hard... reduce the limiting.

The sub sounds fine to me. No reason to reduce the limiting. I think you're just mad because the track sounds huge and everyone loves it, and you can't do it like that.

Do you even know what audio sounds like when it's over-limited? Do you know what the proper term for that is? Do you actually know anything regarding DSP, mastering, the properties of sound, basically anything at all?

The track is not shitty. It's number one on beatport. Don't be jealous. Do your thing and stop worrying about what others are doing.

tbh the track is pretty shit, even if it is Excision and Downlink. A track doesn't have to be good to be number one on beatport.

You act like I made the thread, Im not remotely jealous, if I saw a tune on here that was brickwalled, Id laugh just the same.

I cant well be jealous of a dubstep #1 on beatport, Im not a dubstep DJ or producer, its not my genre, its not my taste, I play and produce mostly techno/electro/house, Im here because there are alot of good people on here. Why does taste always equal jealousy with you people? Cant you understand some of us arent in this to compete with anyone? That some of us just like artistic expression through sound? Jeez... And also, this isnt a question of Excisions production you fuckin dumbass, we're explaining how a poor ME can complete ruin a tune by someone as talented as Excision. Not saying excisions tune was bad. Or that we are jealous. Just that dude should re-evaluate who he hires.

I said 'over-limited' on assumption it would be the most lamens way of phrasing it. Some people in this thread alone dont understand what 'brickwall' means, read up about 4 posts.

Finally, as someone whos had my own mastering treatments pressed to wax, dont talk shit on my knowledge, I can definately find a few times Ive helped you personally on here if I did some searching, and Ive been producing EDM for 8 years, dont suppose I might have heard brickwalled audio before? And after searching your posts, you just generally seem mad today, so Ill forgive you for not bothering to read anytihng I said, and completely missing the point of Deadlies post.

But one more time - your a dumbass. This isnt about Excision, so its not jealousy of him. Its about his mastering engineers.
