Basically copying these specs

Only thing I'm changing is adding a SSD and using a different optical drive and case.

...Now I'm a computer illiterate so I'm sure this'll look silly. But is there anything I gotta pay attention to like.. compatibility wise between the case and let's say the fan or any other part? Or can I just pick about ANY case?

Any case that is standard ATX and above will work.

Are you buying from Alternate in Ridderkerk? At their web shop you can select the parts and they will warn
you if something is not compatible. Sometimes a cpu doesn't work with a certain motherboard etc..

I'd put it together myself too, I did it myself without too much trouble. Saves you some money and you learn quite
a bit from it.
Mine didn't boot the first time because I forgot to install something called jumpers on the motherboard but you can
always take it to a repair shop or something.

It's based on another computer so I know the parts are compatible.

But I will keep the jumpers in mind!

I'm trying to see where I can do some costcutting cuz this badboy is pretty expensive and the processor I was gonna get was a Intel Core i7 2600K / 3.4 GHz, sold for 270 euros but then I found a AMD Black Edition - AMD FX 4100 3.6 GHz for 100 euros.

And I wanted to combine that with a ASUS SABERTOOTH 990FX motherboard... Around the same price as the ASUS P8Z68-V Pro.

That's the better choice innit?

Sorry to put a downer on this but you should be aware it almost certainly won't be much cheaper than just buying a PC . It would be worth seeing if there's a PC with similar stuff to what you need and then just whacking the SSD in there. I spend sooo fucking long coming up with a hardware combo I liked and found that Dell sell pretty much exactly that for less than the sum of the parts. Sad.

Obviously if you have other reasons for building a PC than because you just want a good one (like maybe you just really really want to build a PC), ignore me!

I just doublechecked on the.. processor and noticed it's crap anyway and you're totally right. Awesome suggestion.

I jsut want those killer specs, rly. And if I can get it for a cheaper price I definitely will. Thanks mayne.

When it comes down to it, unless you're really really savvy about this stuff it's best to have someone build you a DAW just for the stuff like BIOS config and - more crucially - support. I've built a couple of my own machines and while it was cool and an education, I also ran into problems that made me want to break shit that I wouldn't have had to deal with if I had support available. At this point I'm looking at Studiocat to build my next DAW. Not sure if there's a European equivalent though...

However, it *is* do-able and I know money doesn't grow on trees... Gearslutz, KVR, and Futureproducers all have some great info, although you may have to look a little to find what you really need. Also check the forum for whatever your music platform is (Ableton, Reaper, etc.)

Jesus, i custom built a computer recently nowhere near as good as that but almost the same price! That is if i convert USD to GBP, but still... feel like a right dick now.

And yeah, you need to make sure your case has enough slots/room to fit your shit in it.

Is the computer overpowered for what I want btw?

Renoise is my main DAW, but I may add Cubase at a later point (not as main DAW, though). I don't use too many VSTis, but will probably have a number of instances of Massive running.

It'll also run Traktor and a number of USB/firewire devices, some at the same time.

Other than that, I just wanna watch a movie, listen to music and browse the web.

And word, I want to put it to use for a number of years...

Yesss! So I have decided on getting a pre-put together tower with an i7, a 2 tb hard drive and 4 gigs of memory, that I'll expand to 8. The tower itself will cost me 800 euros which is a pretty good price.

Buuut I will put in an SSD for the OS and programs.. How big should it be? I'm planning to store all media files on the hard drives. Would 60 gigs be enough?
