What sound card do you have?

Use a Phono to Jack Lead from your mixer out and plug into the line in on your sound card open up soundforge/audacity etc and select line in as your input press record start record

Or...

Download a lot of radio show mixes from this site, and sample all the silent parts. The Distance mix up at the moment is full of silent crackly parts

use ableton live...it has a built in "vinyl crackle" fx. you can use it on anything, it will make it sound like a record.

you could also get one of those cheap phono preamplifiers (http://www.phonopreamps.com/faq.html#need)
and a cable like this

and you could do it yourself. i did this long before i had a mixer and two turntables and it worked quite well for me. also it's very cheap because preamplifier and cable together might be about 10 €.

I must say, that is a pretty rad effect...

Yeah, the guy said he wanted crackles. This means he just wants the crackly sound you get at the start of a record due to the dust. How does quality come into this if all he wants is something which is basically caused by neglect anyway??

You could use the vinyl effect plugins listed as they do the job, but seriously you might as well just sample some from the online mixes.

hmmm... do you get a signal when you plug e.g. a cd-player into your soundcard? if not maybe you haven't set up the input for your soundcard correctly.

but in the end if that doesn't work out use the plugin, would be much easier then... :)

if you send me a pm I can hook you up with some homemade crackles and pops if you like. Great for making some glitchy shit.
