we don't have an all-encompassing thread for travel and wanderlust yet, do we? if so, let me know and I'll trash this one.
I figure one thread would be much more tidier than me starting a new one every time I see somewhere amazing
all discussion/photos relating to travel/wanderlust are welcome, and should definitely be in close ties with the
DSF couchsurfing thread
I'll start:

I've probably finished travelling
partly because I feel that I've done my share & any more would be indulgent
but I still wouldn't mind knowing what it's like to be in Durban & Madrid.

Lived on Maui for a short bit, time of my fucking life: Dropping L on the beach, Full Moon Raves, Ancient Kahuna Magik, Skateboarding down Haleakala Volcano, Tropical fruit and coconuts everywhere free for the taking, By the end of it I was living out my beach cruiser and camping out after a few to many doses and restless nights, I was pretty fucking far gone, but never the less it was a profound experience and I'm looking forward to the return. I miss the sugarcane sent in the air.

^good memories eh?
mine are of Kauai
brought back seeing Napali Coast peaks in the background of
The Descendents
Spent time there long enough ago, between hippies & crowds,
to have be only one in Hanalei Bay camping ground
apart from a large Hawaiin family who sang all day & most of night.
Blissful.
While I'm at it,
now that Burma's opening up
get there quick, before it transforms..
the pagodas, Lake Inle, the time warp.
Never got down the southern coast...
bet it's amazing
but likely to be industrially developed by Thais:

Lots of places I'd like to go to, but never anyone to go with. Might have to get over the visiting-places-alone thing. I travel alone just fine for work. Although that might be the problem. Travelling alone just seems like work and less fun. Also, paranoia probably doesn't help.

I know that feel... i normally have to call up friends and demand that they go places with me.

you'd be surprised how many people turn down free vacations (even if they're not busy) just because they're afraid of one thing or another, or don't want to do the legwork required to get to amazing places like these.

hah i can't afford to travel for real, the furthest afield i've ever been is Kazan in Russia with uni. Was a great month. nearly 40 degrees celsius the whole time, at the end of it caught a free outdoors reggae concert. chilling in the middle of god knows where with this guy with just a bottle of vodka, getting wrecked and getting a gypsy cab at the end. and driving out to the country to stay at someone's lil dacha and having a barbecue.
walking past lenin's house errday.
all my pics suck but this sums up russia kinda (flat and look! factories)

I've got something to add, Dettifoss - Iceland
Unfortunately the day I went there it was extremely foggy and so we couldn't see shit all, but we could certainly hear it!
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c ... ekaert.JPG - click here for a good photo of it, largest waterfall in Europe!

been to iguazu falls, honestly made niagara feel miniscule in comparison -- breathtaking, though all the river mud comes down in the falls and makes it look a bit less picturesque than many would imagine
glaciers in patagonia are also stunning but in a totally different way... ah argentina, take me back

I think I'm just not demanding enough. Plus most people I know are almost permanently broke. Or by the time they're not broke, they're completely settled down.
Oddest trip I've managed was Phoenix -> Grand Canyon in January. Just watching the climate/weather change from desert to snow-covered within a couple hours was amazing! Never seen the Grand Canyon covered in snow before! Well the top bits anyway.

Went to India two years ago, saw some mental places and things.
Cant get any of my pictures but Hampi (Basically a ruined city with an actually functioning city inside of it) was the best I think.
Om Beach in Gokarna, Where we stayed was just behind the tree line
Madurai temple is fucking mental. Pictures dont really do it justice but it has something like 8 towers like this and EVERYTHING is painted, inside and out.
