Quick DAW opinion question

I am currently using Ableton but I have become slightly dissatisfied with it for a few reasons: First it may be just the version I am using but it seems to be a CPU hog and I have a pretty decent computer. Second, it wont recognize certain VSTs--i have tried them in other programs such as the reaper or FL demo and they work fine. Lastly, I am not overly impressed with the workflow/mastering flow.

Which daw would you suggest for me considering I am a PC user and like to produce electro/dubstep music. I was considering Cubase but have been unable to get the demo working on my computer. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

P.S: I know this question may be based largely on personal opinions but I am looking for just that.

just use which ever one you like best. If CPU is an issue then try out reason its rock stabile and incredibly CPU light

Well I should say that I have tried reason but I dont like how you cant use external VST or VSTi. Unless I have used older versions as far as I know this is still the case?

yeah and sinces there no vst's that why its so stabile. The lack of vst's doesn't real inhibit it though, its synths are more than capable

yeah abletons known to be a cpu hog...

personally i think if you got reason you would end up rewiring into ableton which would not help you cpu concern.

reasons dope i still use it. but now that i have logic its so much easier to do a lot of things reason struggles with. its awesome to have both! if you have a mac i suggest logic. if you have windows, try cubase.

Reaper seems to be the best option for a DAW now, IMO. I'm an FL user, but Reaper is so cheap and feature-rich/stable...

Reaper all the way

Reaper! I've been an FL user and still love and use it, but Reaper is awesome especially with the unlimited demo they offer, and it's only like 60 bucks which is ridiculous (although you may want to get third party VSTs as reaper doesn't offer much)

Agreed. However, Reaper's plugs are impressive for freeware. I prefer them over FL's stock plugs any day.

Really? which ones? Only one I seem to use often is ReaEQ and sometimes ReaComp ;/

I use most of the Reaper stuff as well as some JS scripts.

Hm maybe I'll give them another chance.. I thought the delay was meh and ReaVerb or ReaVerberate sucked (one of them was ok I think it was ReaVerb) but compared to other VSTs, even the free ones they were lackluster IMO. and I really wish the midi was better (maybe I've been spoiled with FL Studio's midi). But the audio editing is far superior, love the DAW though :). @Electric can you give an example of when you use a JS Script?

Reverb is a very good IR player.
Reaverbate is only good for minor verbing of percs n stuff, anything more and it just becomes very high pitched.
Reasomplomatic is a more than capable sampler especially when linked with a template to transform it to a drum machine.

Midi capabilities in Reaper are better than FL, Cubase, etc.
Not sure why you wish they were better?

JS I`ve used the limitars, maximiser, drum replacer, etc.

Capabilities perhaps, but the midi editor itself seems a bit clunky to me. Then again I've only been practising reaper for not too long *shrug* just need to get used to it. Seems like an improvement to the editor is in popular demand on the reaper forums as well. FL studio's piano roll is probably one of the better ones out there :6:

Anyway OP, Ableton doesn't support 64-bit VSTs yet...There's a plugin called Jbridge or some shit that lets you use those vsts (never tested it on ableton though) :)

strange skang??

I`m on the Reaper forums and I don`t have the same issues as some folks.
Notice also, loads of users are more than happy.

What are your issues with the midi editor?

as a new DAW user you`d be better off with Reaper.
I was a Cubse owner and I happily moved to Reaper when Cubase got to v5.

I use ableton and yes it is a CPU hog because it is only a 32 bit application instead of 64 and that means not as much RAM is available to help run all the plugins as well. Also, the reason why some vsts don't show up is that they are 64 bit vsts probably and since FL is 64 bit you can only see them in there. And I'm not exactly sure why you aren't impressed with the workflow because it is unmatched :dunce: .
