need help,

Post by fir3wall » Fri Apr 20, 2012 2:14 am

So i've been listening to dubstep for a good while now. I listen to all kinds of dubstep mostly skream, burial, bassnectar, rusko, bare noize, skrillex, and Datsik. Recently i've decided I want to start producing some of my own. I purchased the komplete8 package and i've been learning about Ni massive for the past month or so and i've gotten pretty good at making my own bass and synths, my biggest problem i've noticed so far is my beats. My drum beats are complete shit, i've tried listening to songs and immitating them and that always turns out horrible. Basically what I'm asking is how did you guys learn to make some decent beats? I know everyone has their own style I just want to learn a basis for creating beats because I am stumped on this and its getting very frustrating trying to make a little song and its always missing a good beat.

1. Check the moneyshot thread
2. Search around for youtubes about layering samples
3. Get the right samples / good sources.
4. Add percussion, different hi hat hits, play around with swing and triplets.
5. NY compression and parallel exciting.
