Ableton: How can I make dark & minimal sounds?

Hi,
fairly new to and producing dubstep (as well as this forum :)), but I'm looking to creat similar sounds as found here:

For example: between 1:06-1:10, though it is used here and there throughout the

I have no idea where to start - can anyone give me some pointers maybe?

Thanks, I've had a look through but those are all too brosteppy for me - I'm looking for something minimal - also often found in J:Kenzo's and Kryptic Minds' work.
