I have pretty much lurked these forums and they are pretty helpful this is semi indirect thanks to all the pages I have gone through about mixing down and mastering my sound. I love how the majority of the people on here act as mentors. Alright onto why I am posting.
I have been listening to a lot of Barron and Rekoil (if you don't know them Google that shit) and I have been hearing a few sounds that I would like to know how they did them. It's not so much the sound I care for its the filter that is really cool. Well I actually don't know what it is.
Listen to the song Fight Night - Barron. The sound is at time signature 0:20 or 21. It is a lot like a datsik bass, technique thing but I really have no idea what to call it. I have been messing around with FL's fruity filter set to high pass and modulating that but it does not sound the same. Can anyone lead me in the right direction with this sound/filter thing?
Thanks a ton guys.

Why copy someones style? Express your self with your music.
How are we supposed to help you with out a sample, I'm no expert at sound design but learn basic synthesis and sound design. :p

I am not asking to get that EXACT sound. I just want to know what kind of effect he is putting on that. I don't have any intention at all to copy anothers style, that is a big huge pet peeve of mine. If something I make sounds like another person's sound then it will bug the hell out of me. I guess I didn't word my post right

I can't work out which sound you're referring to. There is the heavier note on the down beat, then a high band passed sound then like a siren type sound after it at 20 seconds in that fight club song.

The sound I am looking for is between the heavy note and the siren. So it is high band passed?

Yeah sounds to me like a narrow band pass around 2-5khz. Its a reece based sound. I havnt played with it yet, thats just what i hear. Ill open up logic and have a fiddle now and see how close i can get.

I was messing around in fruity filter and everything and I was trying to modulate the frequency but it sounded so bad I wanted to tear my face off.

it has a lot to do with the sound source your filtering. The oscillators are layered with white noise so when the leo on the bandpass sweeps it gives an abrasive tone. Still playing with it

If you have a reverb in your effects chain turn the mix down a little or shorten the decay time, That should bring it forward. If what you mean by distant is thing try widening the Q on the filter a touch

No worries man.

OP ended up figuring out the sound he was after and I stumbled across a few new techniques I'm now using in my current WIP. Sometimes trying to emulate others is how you get those happy accidents

Learn sound design, basic synthesis, and better yet, work with a VSTi you're comfy with! Nothing better than experimenting!
