Background: I was on dubstepforum.com reading about the 151 artists doing their versions of the original 151 Pokemon, when I thought it would be a neat idea to have producers do the same(http://dubstepforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=243177). With discussion from the dsf crew, I've decided to put together a compilation of 151 tracks with producers' takes on the original 151 Pokemon.
How it Works:

1. Pick an original Pokemon (from Red/Blue/Yellow, Pokedex numbers 1-151) and let me know which one you are doing.

(You can write for more than one Pokemon, and multiple people can write for the same Pokemon, but we'd honestly prefer if every Pokemon/evolution group only had 1 writer)

IF YOU SHOW ME YOUR TUNE EARLY AND I CAN SEE THAT IT IS PROGRESSING, YOU WILL SECURE YOUR SPOT WITH THE SPECIFIC POKEMON YOU ARE WRITING FOR.

2. If you pick a Pokemon in an evolutionary chain, (Ex. Charizard), you must do ALL the Pokemon in the evolutionary chain. (So, you must write a track for Charmander, Charmeleon, Charizard.)

How you do these tracks is up to you; They could be 3 tracks progressing together, they could be 2 remixes of the original, etc.

3. When you finish your tune, send it to me. If two people wrote for the same Pokemon, we will vote for which one is better and that one will make it onto the compilation.

4. We will release some sort of (free digital) compilation with all our Poke-inspired tunes!

Format: 16bit WAV. Tracks must be over 2:00 in length.
Tune must be titled as: "Pokedex Number Producer Name - Pokemon Name".
Ex. "04 Internet Slave Master - Charmander".

I will also require a short (or long, your choice) paragraph about your track and how it relates to the Pokemon you chose.

I will also be uploading all these songs to YouTube with the Pokemon artwork and your blurb about the tune.

All genres welcome! Don't limit yourself!
*If this goes well, we will release the same sort of compilation except with the Gold/Silver/Crystal Pokemon, and so forth! Woo!*

a cute idea. 30 second bits of music for all 151 pokemon would be a breeze and you could squeeze it all onto a CD.

edit: another thought. you could have some real fun composing as pokemon evolution progresses (a good example off the top of my head Caterpie > Metapod > Butterfree), sticking with my 30 second idea this gives you a minute and a half to really develop a musical idea.

fuck i might think about having a go at this when i have some spare time. big ups OP for the idea.

Lol, you've got it ;)

The question is though, do we limit to the first 151 or go up to 600 or whatever the hell it's at now?

Not sure if there's a point to limiting to just the first 151 since it's not like there's a chance we'd get to all 151.

I liked the idea of making actual tunes though, not just a shit ton of 30 second clips that I won't be arsed to rummage through to find the best 151

If you get 151 people to make the best 30 seconds they can it would be pretty cool.

If not I have a good idea for a track, Ide want 3 pokemon for it though...

That is true, but at the same time I don't know who would want to sit down and listen to 151 straight snippets representing a bunch of pokemon, and not to mention when it comes to evolution chains, so like Charmander, Charmeleon, Charizard, I'd imagine those would all roughly be the same, and there are a bunch of three pokemon evolution like that so there would be a shit ton of snippets all sounding the same. That definitely is a good idea though, I just don't feel as enthusiastic about it. Would be more of a sound design thing than a "let's make tunes" thing.

You mean you'd want 3 pokemon for 1 track, or make 3 tracks for 3 different pokemon?

I was meaning 3 in one track.

I agree after reading that, full songs and put the best on a compilation :W:
