When layering kicks...
do you just slap them together or EQ them to fit snugly into each other?

Re: When layering kicks...
NEVER just "slap" anything together... so the answer is definitely EQ them to fit together because you want them to sound like one fat kick not two semi-fat kicks on one anotherComfi wrote:do you just slap them together or EQ them to fit snugly into each other?
7 year old BROstep/Trapstep/Chillstep producer from India. Young. Talented. 7 Years Old. Super skilled for age. Signed to NOW22. Biography written in 3rd person on soundcloud OBVI. The next Skrillex. Wait I don't even like him anymore LOL. Super talented. Only 6 years old.
Re: When layering kicks...
I slapped a couple together today and it sounded great. Minimal eqing was necessary. I think its all about using your ears and A/Bing. EQing is definitely import, but its not always necessary to be surgical with it.

why not?OfficialDAPT wrote:NEVER just "slap" anything together...Comfi wrote:do you just slap them together or EQ them to fit snugly into each other?
Re: When layering kicks...
You need to think why you a layering them first and them decide if they need eq.
If you are choosing one for the lows and another for the midrange snap if they need eq then use it if not don't.It all depends on the sample material.
I only really ever layer snares,i normally find kiks just need a little processing to get them how you want.

Re: When layering kicks...
Just learn about EQing.. find good samples... you can't turn a totally awful sample into a phat sample.. just browse use some 808 kicks, just watch out for sub interference.

Re: When layering kicks...
Can anyone ever really use an 808 sample straight out of the box? I've got the Goldbaby ones and they all sound pretty poor, or is that just the software I'm using them in? My mate plays them in Logic and they sound better
Re: When layering kicks...
The amp envelope is a great tool for layering, but often overlooked imo.

Re: When layering kicks...
I'm on the hunt for a decent 808 kick atm (gold baby ones I used weren't cutting it ) the ones I've used are too clicky and although I could low pass / compress etc I'm looking for some samples that have the majority of the sound I'm after from the word go.
