Last night's FWD at Plastic People at all time low??

Post by Etches828 » Fri May 04, 2012 8:46 pm

It was definitely a sad moment... I had a good night, sets were all spot on, and it was def out of the hands of who was playing. But the system was actually ridiculous, the past few times i've been the sound was poor, clarity was top, sure. But it was so quiet you could hold a conversation without shouting in front of the speakers. In the crowd you could almost turn around and tell the people behind you to stop talking so loudly coz you couldn't hear the music properly haha. And also do they not cater for turntables anymore?? Youngsta played a 3 CDJ set, which was unbelievable of course. But it was a bit strange hearing like... Crack Bong remix and Midnight played off CD. In no way do i mean to sound like a moany bastard and I am fully supportive of CD's and use CD's myself, but it's crazy seeing these so to speak, dubplate warriors getting on the switch over. Sad time imo. Big up everyone that played last night though, dark dark vibes.

its a shame about youngsta but im sure its the clubs poor facilities that forced him into using CD's. There is hope, come to the next system

Yunx said in his DSF Q&A that he'd still use vinyl/dubplates if enough clubs had well maintained-turntables as he prefers the sound. But theres simply not enough clubs that do this to make it worth his while.

Still got to hear Midnight out tho ;-)

Double edged sword. If the amount of big names that are so evangelical about playing vinyl just told these whack clubs that don't look after the decks to fuck off unless they sorted it out, it wouldn't be a problem. Seems just like an easy excuse for some.

there dont seem to be that many people that ARE 'evangelical' about it

and if you make a living partly out of playing nights is that even particularly feasible?

start a DJs union and strike for vinyl

Maybe not evangelical, but those that are some of the biggest names, Mala, Youngsta, etc.

On top of those, there's so many that claim they would play vinyl if the decks weren't so shit. Are the decks really that bad in so many places? That was the quandry, clubs don't maintain their decks, but why would they when nobody's using them?

I'm not a world class jet setting DJ but I have had the mortifying experience of playing on some shockingly shit pairs of decks. I remember playing at the Rainbow a couple of years ago and one of the decks was utterly fucked and the sound man trying to tell me there was nothing wrong with it like I was a complete prick. Obviously I'm not the prick who had to lug a fucked deck upstairs and bring a new one down. Same night i saw a CD-J which someone had left a cigarette on and it had a nice bit of melting going on.

But to be fair, not all venues actually have any kit in them and if your a promoter you should really make sure the kit is spot on for DJ's to play. Burlish does a stellar job of making sure all the kit at Movement is in full working order and I do take my hat off to him for the hard work he put's in. Also I do hear more younger guys complaining about the decks not working and that CD-J's are crap, so hopefully this will be the start of a new generation of vinyl / turntable lovers.! :U:

Hopefully man! That wasn't me an issue of not believing that decks are shit, but I've only ever played at Movement (big up Burlish!) so don't have experience of that.

almost went to this thursday night, glad i didnt. FWD needs to seriously look at itself, i've never been to a dubstep night with a system worse than the new one at PP and this is meant to be the 'pioneering' dubstep night. when i went to the last get darker night the RC1 soundsystem in room 2 was fucking intense, that was rattling my organs never mind my chest, that is what FWD needs! obviously im gonna go back there but they must realise that it's just not good enough, oceana wouldn't tolerate this kind of bs, sort it out!!!

TBH Yunx was playing Midnight and Crackbong off CD's at Exodus at the weekend. Those two are some of his trademark tunes as of late and seeing as he has the WAV files it would be pretty pointless rinsing his dubplates no? I tuned into his set in Bulgaria last night and he played them both off CD again.

Strange how Plastic people have took a huge step back with their system. It was tip top around a year ago was it not?

out of interest what would you do personally if say you 'came across' these cd's? Like found them or he dropped them at a night you were at? Not gonna lie i think i'd have to be making a swift copy for personal use then I might send em him back! Oh how I would love to rinse those two like he does...

id get them cut to dubplate then snap the cd in half because its a travesty that such weighty tunes are getting played on cd.
