Best DAW for automation?

Hi!

Been using Cubase 5 LE for my almost 3 months of producing and I really feel like the automation is buggy and the UI is not so great for that thing. Also, there are some other things about the UI/effects that I don't like. Which DAW do you personally feel has the best UI and best and easiest automation for effects, instruments and such?

I use alot of automation in my productions this far and Cubase just gets all cluttered up pretty quickly and there are even bugs that f*ck up the automation so I have to start over; this can be very irritating.

So, Reason? FL? Cubase 6? Which one is my best bet? :-)

Try out Ableton Live or FL Studio. Both have very easy to use interfaces.

i use cubase and renoise, never had a problem with automation in either of them
when i used fl back when i remember automation in that being a task in itself and often being some ass backwards way of doing things

For recording automation, can't say, but for working with automation, flstudio by leaps and bounds. Note, am not referring to event data.

You're all giving daw names but no reasons for choosing them. It would be interesting to know why you choose these daws.

Ableton's automation is super easy to use IMO. I can't explain why exactly but its just super easy to wrap your head around it

In Fl Studio 10 all you have to do is right click on the parameter and choose "create automation clip" for native controls on the mixer or Imagine Line VSTs or use "last parameter tweaked" option from one of the top menus (forget which, just instinct at this point) for non-native controls and you can automate anything by way of an envelope on the playlist. You can place the envelopes right next to the midi or audio clip it's automating...really easy to automate things according to your arrangement and visualize what's going on.

I've really not used any other DAWs but FL Studio...I can't imagine it being easier than it is in FL Studio.

Ableton or Reason I have used both and their automations are pretty good you can group automations to make a complex evolving sounds. Ableton has a very simple design that can do work. You can group automations down to one or two knobs by grouping instruments or fx in Racks. In Reason someone could get the same routing design out of a combinator, Spider Splitters and Mixers. I am not sure about cubase or FL studio but I know logic has a pretty easy to use interface.

FL studio was a nightmare for doing any intricate automation. Automating the volume to rise over a 16 bar loop? Sure super easy. Automating a filter cutoff to form the 'groove' of your track (reeses etc), terrible. Logic is my favorite, quick to get to, multiple curves that are just a drag of the mouse away, values of what you're automating showing up where your points are, automating on top of the track or as its own 'channel', a click away from real-time automation recording as opposed to drawing, the list goes on. It's just quick to get into and easy to change all the parameters because everything is linked to a keyboard shortcut, speeds up workflow like mad.

Live's easy enough, but I wish it had built in curves. Is there a way to get it to snap to the grid?
