Phasing and "out of phase" are not the same thing. Stereo is not a bad thing but overly wide stereo images will not work well in mono. In the article it suggests Flux stereo Tool and Voxengo Span. Both have phase correlation metering.

cheers

Do you recommend mono reverb on mono sound sources, i.e drums? or is this just as bad?

Good question.....ive been mixing in mono lately then switching to stereo once my mixdown is done. I did u use to use stereo reverbs a lot....but since hearing my tunes on sound systems.....ive cringed, as a lot of the stereo information has disappeared. To me, mono reverbs are great.....they seem much fatter and dont disappear as much on a sound system.

I dont know the wrongs or rights.....but this works for me.

Also i watched a article on youtube about eq'ing in mono:

Makes sense whats he says : "mono will force you to make work smarter"

My favorite mid/ side phazing meter from the inspector xl bundle

Image

The best by far in my mind.....good correlation meter and also shows the levels of your side and mid.

Very interesting read...really need to remember to check things in mono. Interesting idea to do a lot of the work in mono, then switch over to stereo later on in the process. Might have to give that a go.
