Latency In Ableton

I'm rather new to Ableton...I'm trying to show patience. I stared a new session and have had no real problems until I get to the 7th track. When I trying recording a midi performance with Albino 3 ( or any vst instrument ) I just can't, due to so much latency while I play;-(. There has to be a solution to this. Forgive me because I'm sure this has been discussed a million times, but I'm about to go Bruce Lee on Live in a second...any help is seriously appreciated.

Let me begin by stating which options I've exhausted.

Iv'e adjusted the audio buffer size, drive error compensation, plug in buffer size, multi core option, and midi clock sync delay. Also I'm on an 8 core west mere mac pro/Lynx Hilo audio interface...the hardware shouldn't be the problem...its either a preference I'm hoping or just plain old me! Thanks in advance!!

Are you using a LOT of heavy plugins?

I took all of the plugins off, just now, except for the vst synths. I have 3 instances of Massive ( using only 1 voice per instance ), 2 instances of Albino 3, and 2 of Abletons drum kits...its still doing it;-(

There's no way it should be bogged down. I figured with the computer I now have ( 8 core Westmere ) I'd be able to run at least 20 tracks of Ableton...??? Is Ableton even capable of doing this? I absolutely love the creative aspects of Ableton but I'm so confused now about this latency when trying to record a midi performance from my keyboard controller.

Sometimes my midi controller will all the sudden have a ton of latency after working in a project for a while. The only solution I've found is to close ableton, unplug USB controller, plug it back in, reopen ableton and problem solved. It's a pain, but once your used to doing it, doesn't really take that long.

I'd suggest having a look around the Ableton forums too.

Thanks for all of the feedback! I definitely never use pirated software. Not my thing...but good point.

I figured out that I couldn't use my command8 control surface with ableton the way I can use it with protools hd. With protools I had my midi keyboard connected to my command8---the command8 was then connected to the computer...worked like a charm. But while using ableton with these connection I was experiencing extreme latency...I never would have guessed it. Easy fix though obviously...I just connected the midi keyboard directly to the computer.

Thanks!
