Ableton EQ/Compression DJ Setup? Better solution needed!
Hello fellow bassheads, im here with a honest to god question that i have been struggling to figure out my self.
As of recentlly for the past 6 months or so, i have been djing on ableton with a great setup for my fully customized EQ i made with the stock EQ 8 that comes with ableton. Now im looking for the next part that i seems to be missing, the compression of a DJ mix in ableton. This has become a little tricky because i dont actually know whats the best solution for compression.
Now i might be wrong about that being the problem so let me go a little deeper...
Today i was listening to Crissy Criss's Mix for TheDailyDoseOfDubstep. As i listened to the monster set he played i notice how good and clean the sound was when he crossed over and played songs in unison. The bass was loud and the mids and highs felt like the underline of the bass (how real dub sounds like) and i was astonished by the audio quality that is was mixed on, (it was a 320) but thats my question. As i listed i thought "Wow, does my mixes sound this good?" As i was playing on my ipod, i quickly shifted to my last mix and notice that there was a big difference on the compression or EQ. As i come to the experts (you guys)... How can i achieve that level of perfect compression when djing by maintaining a strong bass that isnt overshadowed by the mids or highs on ableton. I dont care how expensive it could be, i just a solution to this problem.
Thank you for your time.

Hmmm it's possibly the quality of the actual tunes you're using? Not sure what medium this crissy criss guy was using to mix, but if it was CDJs or Traktor or something, he was probably using WAVs? I don't know, I use CDJs and I like to use all WAV files when possible.
Btw this should go in the production forum man

For myself, i use 50 percent 320s and about 15 percent flacs and 35 percent wavs
the strange thing is that its not the audio format because i hear the same thing happen on both flacs and wavs when played.
as more time i hear mixes from others the more i hear that this isnt based on the quality but the setup of the mix/mixer/compression.

With Ableton, it's really important what Warping modes you are using. I use the repitch mode more often than the other ones. Sounds punchier.

ok well that did help create a more flowing and punch like sound but im still wondering about the post-processing and finalization of a dj mix to sound? When im finished with a set, how can i get the best out of it?

Watch you levels mostly, don't push into the red. Should sound decently enough I reckon?
